Str 4 base glade guard long bows getting rid of the +1 str at short range? I havnt tested yet but I think it would be a balanced improvement within 8th, has anyone else tried this or have any thoughts on it?
I had someone messing up the rules against me once, and playing their bows at S4 the entire time. He never explicitly said that they were S4, he was just accumulating an awful lot of wounds. I didn't catch on until I mentioned that they'd be going to S4 at half range and he told me that they were always S4.
The moral of the story though is that it didn't matter much. Even their S4 bowmen cost more than a typical crossbowman or handgunner, so you're still left with the same problem: they cost too much. I would say that yes, it would give them an edge, but I don't think it goes a long way towards validating them.
Now, if they would give Scouts, Waywatchers, and Glade Riders 'Glade Guard Longbows' (and call them "Asrai Longbows" or something) then we'd actually see a lot more of those units on the field. Especially the Glade Riders, personally.
There have been a lot of thoughts on how the list could be updated. I really wouldn't mind if someone approached me with a well-written "patch list" that just fixed a few of their basic issues. They still wouldn't be amazing, just because of the Skirmish/Cavalry nerfs, but at least they would be a bit more playable.
Skirmish/Cavalry were nerfed, but Skirmishers/Fast Cavalry with Bows got better. If everything was S4, like it should, we would definitely see Glade Riders because they would be able to march 18" and fire a S4 shot and Scouts would be harassing people like crazy for the same reason. War Hawks would also benefit greatly from this as well, however, everything in the army still costs too much. I feel that everything should coast about this: Glade Guard 8, Scouts 12, Riders 14, Way Watchers 16, and Hawks 30.

On the cost topic aswell I believe treemen should be atleast 250 points max so we can actually have a strong creature in smaller games, as I generally play at 1k to 1500 points I would love to have a treeman in 1k. Also treekin to 55 ish points instead of 65
