    nah that wouldn't work

If you want a melee army if some nice ranged and magical support go for high elves or dark elves.

Woodelves are more heavily dependant on cunning tactics, ambushes, the long bow, and some nice cc support units.

The are more ideal for sneaky things not a nice your face beat your ass up kinda deal. This is mainly cause of t 3 and no armor.

But they do have nice cc units.

War dancers, dyrads, forest spirits, treemen, and eternal guard (who can get like 15 attacks)

Wood elves are all abought the sneak attacks and guerrilla tactics, (althougth not as much for the new wood elves). Wood elves take some experience to play but can be really fun to play (peoples expressions after some great treesinging are hilarious). I can't wait until the new models come out and they become a real army.

yeah that guy is so insanly awesome

Put him in the eternal guard I would. But I dont have the army book yet so this is just an ammusmtion taking into account the hero his equipment and the unit. I would reconmend wardancers but lords cant skirmisher (I think) and cant join wardancers. You could put him in any unit that would see CC but eternal guard would be the best option in my opion.

From my limited knowledge and experiance I'd take

    The lord

    A scroll cadie spell singer

Tons of glade guard (they are your basic troop now, with str 4 longbows at short range )

a few glade guard scouts (they now have that option)

A small unit of glade riders

    Wardancers

    Dyrads

    Eternal Guard

    and a treeman

    basically some of everything ^_^

I would wait untill the new army book comes out before making an army list or buying any models. If you are going to buy models flyers and cav. are good.

the starter army seems good enough for me. A good mix of good units.

good luck with em, they are a hard army to play. Then again Hes have their probs as well but are no where near as speicialised as woodies.
