Welcome to Librarium Online!
many of my friends say that wood elves are broken. they dont like when i stop their march moves, they think its cheep. although i think it kinda is because it makes all of their M4 units not be able to reach me.
so i was wondering does anyone else have this problem.
When you combine Speed and Power you get Lightning.
I don't know if I would say broken. I just got a chance to go through the new Wood Elf list a couple of days ago and I must say that I think they are extremely potent. They seem to have fantastic stats and some really amazing magic items. I haven't played them or against them yet though so I don't know if I would say broken. I definatley think they are going to be in the top 3 for army lists.
Okay. The Wood elves are easily the most fragile and most difficult army to use in warhammer. They require a certain finesse to win, and yes they often do that by march blocking. I don't see how that would be cheesy or cheating, as it is easy to be countered, and is often unreliable. They have no straight forward strategy and lack staying power.
Well just like ogre kingdoms most poeple will scream broken in as they are negative and don'T seek out weaknesses and only wine and the strong points. Give it time and the army will have much less success, as people adapt against it really.
When the army book came in with a friend's army box set, he and I were scouring it, showing all the other players all the fancy items.
To every item we showed, it generally got a 'cheese' reaction.
I think it's only reveared as cheese because it's new. Think about Tomb King magic. I'm sure when the Tomb Kings first emerged, their magic phase was regarded as cheese. Now, I think players just expect it and deal with it. The same can go for Empire Cannons, Scaven Irresistible Force, or any number of different things.
Just give it time, when players learn to start countering things, their cries of cheese will diminish.
The list is broken in half. The prospect of having to go toe to toe with a treeman lord that can only be hit on 6s due to spites and has a toughness of 6 just isn't funny. Forest spirits popping up all over the place with ward saves, pinging from forest to forest. Waywatchers with killing blow on their arrows, eternal guard being stubborn and fighting in two ranks. Magic items that can cause wounds with no armour or ward saves.
Their weakness being that mercifully they are still elves and thus only toughness 3.
I think the new army has radically changed the way it will play as it now has units in it that have a bit of combat oomph as well as good shooting.
It will be interesting to see what happens as this army has far far more versatility in it than ogre kingdoms. My friend who only ever plays broken armies almost creamed his pants when he read the wood elf book, so there must be some really REALLY good stuff in it.

All of those things are only half truthes, and they all come at ridiculously high prices. Many of the items you talked about other races have as well.
And some items have drawbacks- Spiritsword, for example, while it can deal wounds that the enemy can't save against, it can also allow enemies to do that to you. And the best armor WE can get is light armor- and I think thats only heros, lords, and wild riders who can get it. I think the best save other than with a hero or lord is a 5+ for EG and WR. Then GR and WHR get 6+ for being mounted, and War Dancers have a 6+ ward. all Forest spirits have a 5+ ward, but thats hardly game breaking.... it doesn't work against magic, either. It does look fun, though. Definately different than the 40K nids I usually play.
Very good point there Phalanx, WE caracters have no defense what so ever, have paper thin armour, and weak wards at best a 5+ ''deamonic ward'' these guys are finesse and team players, not though as a nail chaos lord or Saurus Old Blood.
Pardon my ignorance on the half truthes, I shall ask in the form of a question for the points I raised:Originally Posted by Bruiser117

2. Is it possible to give a treeman lord the spite (spite of annoyance I think it is called) making it possible only to hit it in combat on a 6?
3. Does a treeman have a toughness of 6?
4. Do eternal guard fight in two ranks?
5. Is it possible for eternal guard to be stubborn?
6. Is there an item that causes wounds to a model anywhere on the table with no armour or ward save available? (I have encountered no such item in any of the armies I own or play against regularly, can you tell me what other armies have items like this?)
7. Do elves still have toughness 3?
8. Will the new army list change the way wood elves play?
I have had a look at the list and the answer as far as I can see to these questions is yes.
And it is possible to have an entire army (should the player choose) with a ward save of 5+ against non magical attacks. The cry of "that isn't gamebreaking" comes straight out of the brettonians whine book.
I will however say that playing wood elves will now be a lot more entertaining than walking up the field getting shot at. The models also look absolutely AWESOME, I will be getting some of the wardancers and waywaychers just to paint. GW has excelled themselves with the range of models.
