Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was just wondering if you would deploy them in 1 line, then when the enemy gets colse, rank them up b/c you dont take penaties for moving.. but im not that solid on the rules (u can rank up then shoot, right?)
Reforming takes up all of your movement. So you'd drop into ranks and that's all you can do. No shooting either. But a magic user should still be able to use magic if there's one there by some chance.
k, thanks for the rules clarificaton... much appreciated.. so should i start them in 2 ranks of 6?
I would generally keep them in 1 rank of 12, and try not to let them see combat at all unless they really need to. The most viable tactical decision for GG is to let them bait and retreat as a charge reaction against an attacker, and flank with another unit to the side.
Unless they're on a hill, the 2nd rank won't be able to fire. Huge waste of points, that.
Field them in a line and reform only if needed. Like B says, keep them out of combat if you can. They'll be like butter in the summer heat.
Agreed. If you can get, lets say, 10 shots per unit at s4, though, the enemy will be pin-cushioned. Much better than 6 shots per unit while costing more points and still getting creamed in cc.
