I'm taking a survey if you could choose between wood elves or high elves which one would u choose .
ill choose both, reason being is wood elves got nice units such as war dancers while the high elves have got the war machines, like the RBT.
You are asking in the Wood Elves Forum. Of course everyone is going to saw wood elves.
I'll give you some information on both, so you can see which you like better rather than getting bias opinions.
Magic: High Elves contain more potent magic, perhaps the most powerful mages in the game with access to very effective magic enhancing items. Wood Elves, while not as powerful as wood elves, nor getting the same bonuses or magic items, contain some good cheap spells, most noticably Tree Singing, which allows the player to move forests around the board.
Overall, HE have a slight edge on magic, but both have very different uses/styles for magic, so its in the eyes of the beholder.
Speed: High Elves have a lot of very good, and fast cavalry, as well as chariots. This is perhaps their second greatest asset. Many HE players make all cav armies which can be very good. Wood Elves, have expensive, and very lightly armour, light cavalry, that are VERY good at their job of harassing, flanking and march blocking.
Overall, WE and HE are close in this category. HE may have a slight edge because it is very possible to make an entire army out of cavalry which is very competitive. WE could try this, but it would be hard due to the lack of any armour whatsoever on the cavalry.
Foot Troops(Melee): HE have notoriously rotten foot troops, with some exceptions. I am not personally an HE player but I have heard many complaints on the matter. WE lack ranked foot troops, but they are very effective point for point. Dryads, as cheap as a saurus warrior, with the same stats plus fear, extra movement, higher ws and i, and a ward save. Their only 'downfall' is being skirmishing, but that in ways can be better than being ranked. WE lack relative armour on most of their troops, so they don't have quite the durability of HE, but neither have much to brag about in the defense.
Overall, WE have the edge in this category.
Foot Troops(Ranged): In terms of the actual troops, WE are better hands down. Their archers cost the same as the HE archers, but the wood elves have many great abilities such as the no penalty for moving and shooting, and the +1 s on close range. WE also have access to some pretty rapist scout like units, such as the scouts and way watchers, both very effective of putting the fear of god into the enemy, as well as march blocking and war machine hunting. What HE do have which brings this category closer to a tie, is their war machines. The RBT is a very powerful engine of death, which is good at tearing up heavy infantry and rank and file troops, which WE have a hard time with
Overall. WE have a slight edge because of the war machines HE have. WE musn't forget the sheer amount of magic missiles HE can hurl out too.
This is just a basic over view, you can kind of get an idea about what these armies are all about, but there obviously many more elements of each army which would take many hours to type. I hope that I have helped make your decision. In the future, you might want to ask questions like "Can you give me a brief description of the Wood Elven Army? or Can you give me a brief description of the High Elven Army?" in their respective forum so you can learn more about what you would like yourself, instead of just following everyone's opinion.
My vote goes to high elves, their still high fantasy (like dwarves, vampire counts and to a lesser extent lizardmen) where everyone else is moving into gothic like 40k.

the models are loads better and the battles they play are so much more interesting lots more movement
i didnt do it it was him 'onest boss
depends on what u want. if u want an comparitivly easy army to play, thats quick and shooty, then wood elves. but if u want loads of magic, cool fluff, and a great artillery piece, go with high elves.
p.s- i play as high elves and my brother plays as wood elves, and they are both cool armies, i just hope that you have more luck being the high elves than i do.
I don't think Wood Elves are easier to play then High Elves, in fact, I think they are harder. They both have steep learning curves, but the big difference is once you beat the curve, you'll win more with Wood Elves than High Elves.Originally Posted by Ickebeebon
the only reason im said that they are easier to play as is because my brother has just started playing them, hasnt read any strategies or anything and is already doing quite well. so i guess thats why i think they are easier, i just had a lot of difficulty playing as HE.(Its prbably just cause im stoopid. ) but anyways, back to the original question.
