Going along the lines of the thread by Settra, I was wondering how people run their characters in 2000 pts.
I've built a few 2000 pt lists using Army Builder to kinda give me a guide in which to take my army. I usually build my core force and the general first and then add specials, rares and characters to fill in the rest.
The lists that I created generally had only three characters (two Nobles and one Branchwraith -kitted for anti-magic).
I was wondering if it would be feasible to get away with not using Lord level characters in 2000 pt games? How does everyone else run their characters in 2000 pts?
Also, what are some of the nasty combos that you can create using the magic items in the list?
It's probably feasible to avoid running a Lord in 2000 points, but I'm not sure I would.
There are two reasons for this: the Wand of the Wych Elm (massive anti-magic power) and the Bow of Loren/Arcane Bodkins (or Starfire Arrows) combo.
Simply, these seem too good to pass up. Against expensive, high armour armies the four armour-punching arrows are amazing. Against magic-intensive armies, the Wand is a huge screw. In addition, both the spellweaver and the highborne pull their weight in other manners, too (lore of athel loren is pretty solid, and the highborne can spend but a few more points to really dish it out in melee, too)
You don't need them, the heroes are good, but I think I'd take one in most games just for those magic items.
Its mostly because of the magic items that people take lords, like bean said. But don't plan on killing droves of enemy troops with your combat lord, elf characters weren't made for that but more to flavor your army and add something it wouldn't have other-wise.
my lord currently fields an eternal kindred the rhymers harp(mmm 5+ ward save for him + unit) and an annoyance of netlings to keep him alive in challenges i think he is a pretty solid choice
i didnt do it it was him 'onest boss
