I have not seen the new Eternal Guard yet and was wondering if the old 5th Edition Wood Elf Spearmen would work for them? It seems the Eternal Guards have some armour (not sure how much) but the olf 5th edition figures only had helmets.
I have some of the older models myself, and will use a few of them for convertions.
But if you are on a budget and do not wish to perchase more putter models, they will do fine.
The new Eternal Guard just came out at my game store. I picked up a box (10 Guard) ($35)and a command blister ($15). The models look great, all one piece metal, except the standard bearer. I can't wait to get them painted and up and running.
If you have old Glade Guard Spearmen models from the previous Wood Elf incarnation, those can easily play the role of Eternal Guard. Heck, it even states in the army book that some Eternal Guard use the spinning stave fighting techniques and some use a traditional spear and sheild.
I saw the Eternal Guard models this morning--they're really quite badass . Still metal, unfortunately, but they have some very cool poses. I picked some up, but they're a bit pricy, and I could see why you might not want to.
As it is, the rules seemed to have been carefully written so that you can use your old Spear-elves (the old Glade Guard, whatever, I'm not familiar with the old rules) as Eternal guard. Simply, the rules don't ever say that they're armed with anything in particular. Rather, they say that, whatever they're armed with, then follow certain rules (as outlined in the Eternal Guard Fighting Style blurb).
So, go ahead and use those spear-elves for EG, no one will have grounds to complain .
I'll be buying some just as soon as I get paid again (but by then, I'll also be buying wardancer command and at some point wild riders  ). I've proxied models in a few games with great results. Eternal Guard are solid, especially when stubborn.
take em with a highborn with the rhymers harp 5+ ward save for everyone gives you a warm feeling inside.
