In the same vain as the centaur army post, i'm seriously considering making wood elves from lustria or the new world. I'm running into some problems though.
Background on lustrian elves:
The idea here is that these were likely dark elves who were 'left behind' wounded survivors, failed battles, etc. from the earlier incursions into Lustria by the druchii who have been surviving in the jungles. When Ariel sent wood elves from Athel loren to hunt beastmen in the wider world, a few nobles found them, either being integrated into their prospering society, or teaching their sorceresses the lore of athel loren to control the jungle around them. The re-appearance of the dark elves in the recent lustria campaign has stirred them up, and they have started to make their presence known elsewhere.
My current conversion ideas are to have some converted witch elves and dark eldar wyches be my wardancers (i'll need to resculpt their hair and add fur or scales to their clothing). witches converted to ride cold ones (perhaps the new lizardmen cavalry cold ones as there's 8 in a box) will be my wild riders.
Here's the problem(s): everything coming out of lustria (save the plage monks) seem to have an inca or aztec theme to them. this would save me time trying to convert the new cold ones into anything as they have collars that look very much in line with lizardmen ornamentation, but its hell for everything else... I've no idea what to do for eternal guard or glade guard.
Dark elf warriors don't look very aztec-y... nor do glade guard miniatures. My first idea for plastic eternal guard would be using glade guard legs and dark elf warrior torsos and spears. This really doesn't seem to be anything like Lustria, perhaps i'll have to have them clad in lizardman skins.
As for Glade guard: i have no clue.. amazon models would be neat, and would work here, but i really really really want to stay away from them because they are so darn expensive. Unfortunately i'm at a loss here, i've got no idea what i should do for these guys, by extension, i don't know what to do for waywatchers.
Anyone have any ideas on how i could represent these units?
I'd nort worry about the theme. Elves always have had their ouwne faiths. Maybe mingle the background of the dark Elves & Woodelves? makinging them in a sort of kornous army only not with Kornous but with Kaine, symbolising their histiory as Dark elves?
For miniatuers, id take for EG dark elves spearmen without the shields, and paint GG as GG but in dark to black colours. Makes them a sort of sneaky anmbush style. With elves combined with WD is a nice idea, only change the Witch elves Hair a bit.
Succes and Goog Hunting!
I know they've had their own faiths, and i'm pretty sure the elves wouldn't just take up the gods of the amazons or lizardmen, but i was thinking that these elves would be more "druidic" they've just been inhabiting these ruined or abandoned temple-cities in lustria so they've picked up a different style of dress and ornamentation.
This theme might be falling apart, but still, we'll see how it goes.
If you really like this theme/fluff, stick to it! you need to feel like it is really your army. Keep posting here on the progress.Originally Posted by We Are Legion
I am actually working on a similiar idea. South of the Dark Elves is really an area that is unmentioned in any fluff that I have heard of so far. So after I finish my 2000 pt WE army I am going to start to mod units. To me Dark Elves like in what would probably be Nova Scotia region. So I could do a WE army south of that. The forest in my mind would be conifers (pine trees). I am hoping to be starting it in late February.
Having WE in another forest or jungle is completly supported by the Army Book because it says that to a WE mage all the worlds forests are conencted, you just need to knwo the paths. So in my mind another group of WE in another forest is a very natural expansion for them.
*sighs* god i'm too fickle... i may come back to this idea and i may not, but i actually think i'll hold off on Wood elves, the new 40k eldar codex is coming out soon, and if the new rules interest me enough, i may just make an exodite army using the elf models i've already got, plus some of the other wood elf models.
But if others like this idea, feel free to use it and post more if you plan to take up this theme ^.^
Why not put scales onto the cloaks of your models? Take greenstuff (or similar modeling clay) and roll it onto flat layer of aluminum-foil. You can then either scribe little shapes in it to cut out, or just break it into tiny bits and glue it onto the cloaks. You could opt to sculpt the scales right onto the cloaks, but if you think converting the whole army is hellish… wait till you spend a weak on a single model

Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Malleus Darkblade or whatever that DE special character's called - he's got a good scaly cloak you could use, and there are also the corsairs which might look good as eternal guard or something.
I know it's a bit of a strange idea but the new Tau ethereals might look good as kind of lustrian spellsingers (if you somehow changed their heads).
The lizardmen cold ones would look cool as the horses for wildriders, or the old cold ones - they look like raptors (dinosaurs, not Chaos Space Marines), they look more like they could use the wildriders' decent movement.
Warhawk riders could be terradons with glade guard on top, I don't really know how you could do the tree spirits apart from the wildriders, maybe just stick some jungle foliage on them.
