Hagbane Arrows: potentially kill a multiwound model
Hail of Doom Arrow: lots of str 4 arrows
Starfire Arrows: possibly panic the enemy
Arcane Bodkins: armor? what armor?
Dragontooth Arrows: stupidity
Just curious what other people think. Which magical arrows do you think are best? Which ones are garbage and you wonder who in the world designed them?
for a general list i would use the Doom arrow, it always comes in handy.
otherwise it would take the bodkins, ignoring armour is always a good thing.
the dummbest one i think is the one with stupidity, it one works against multiwound moddles, and characters have the hight Ld in an army (generally) so the wont be stupid often. And othe rmultiwound creatues are rare (unless you play ogre kindoms) or are already stupid (trolls)
hope it helps
you are right, the bow of loren makes them much more effective. i didn't want to say that bodkins are only useful with the Bow of loren, since this thread is about the arrows and not the things to suplement the arrows.Originally Posted by IamJasonK
Starfire Arrows are decent - if not against Elves/Dwarves and ItP armies.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
I haven't taken anything other than the hail of doom in a long time. It's incredibly potent. The average roll on 3 dice is 10. Out of those 7 or 8 should hit, and then depending on toughness start racking up the wounds. (Don't you wish you could use Asyendi's Bane with it?!)
I do like the loren/bodkins combo a lot.
But the hagbane arrows require a to hit, to wound, and toughness test. That's a whole lot of tests to pass.
The dragontooth arrows seem pointless. They've got to be used against a multiwound model. Multiwound models tend to have high toughness, so a str 3 hit against one has a limited chance of wound. And there's a good chanec that the model will take an unmodified armor save against the wound. And what do you get for all that? A model that now must roll for stupidity. So now you've got another hurdle to pass. If he is hit, wounded, fails a save, and fails a ld test, now he is stupid for one turn.
Starfire arrows are great against goblins and skaven.
yes the magic arrows are handy indeed, especially because we are teh only race that has the capability to take some makes them very characterful and Wood elfish.
the arrows all have their own special uses (starfire = fleeing gobbo's) and although some are tricky to use, (for example hagbane) they can (combined with some normal/good dice rolling)be devastating against the right enemy.
another pluspoints, people already hate woodies because we can walk and hoot with no mod. combine that with a great BS and some nasty arrows and you have something that the enemy will really hate, maybe even so much that he will loose perspective on th rest of your army. the insucurity that even our spellsingers can sucesfully panic enemy units makes uor army very versitile. the enemy must even look out for the small single minatures
I would have to go with Bodkins being my favorite because with it you can take out a heavy cav. unit throughout the game. This i think is the most helpful since we are a monuverable race it doesn't helps us more when we can take out thier fastest strongest units without putting our units at risk. As for the hail of doom. I think it is a great weapon but you once you use it once your done. I am not a big fan of that but I know that a lot of people like it and it can be useful.
