Wood Elves are probably the fastest army in the game (with so many Skirmishers, Flyers and Fast Cavalry), so use that advantage. If you want a fair fight, abttle with 3 of your units vs 1 of his at a time. With your Warhawk Riders, Waywatchers and Galde Riders marchblocking and panicking the enemy, use Flank Charges with the rest of your army to your biggest advantage. So, a unit of Tree Kin hitting tehm on the front, a unit of Wardancers on one Flank and a unjit of Wild Riders on the other side will give you a Flank Charge, engate their Flanks, probably give you the Outnumber bonus, and you'll probably be striking first so pulling down maximum casualties. If you lose that combat, there's somethign wrong with the world.
Well Wood elves (not trees) can hit hard but take none.
They key is to get the charge.
With high mobillity this shouldn't be a problem.
A unit of orcs. (say 25: 5x5) you never assault them in the front exept with treekin and treemans and maybe EG. They key is getting at the flanks and rear.
Wildriders are masters in getting arpound the flanks and use them that way.
Wardancers get a bucket load of attacks. even tough they can't break a flank they still get +1 CR and are ussually out of the way of champions and characters maximizing their impact on the enemy unit.
The trees hyave a higher T han the elves and therefore can take more damage.
Use dryads like wardancers and don't forget their fear.
Treekin and treeman can take the unit of the front to make sure the enemy's advance is halted and you can get a flank charge.
Never ever use you're units alone. They only execptions are Treeman and Eternal Guard because of their Stubbron, but don't trust that to hard.
Always use combine dcharges and may the dice gods be with you in you're fights.
Hope it helps
"Ask not the Eldar a question, for they will give you three answers; all of which are true and terrifying to know"
Personally I like to use units of 18 Eternal Guard fighting in 3 ranks of 6. Lets compare them in a battle against 18 empire Spearmen W/shields, from the old army book. I don't have the new one. We will even give the Empire the charge to make it fair.
On the first round of Combat the Spearman charge. They will have 7 S3 WS3 attacks. Against the EGs WS5 and T3 and AS 5+.
7 attempts To Hit = 3.5 hits.
3.5 attempts to wound = 1.75 wounds
1.75 armor saves = 1.16 successful wounds.
WE counterattacks. 19 Attacks WS5 S3 against WS3 T3 AS 4+.
19 attempts to hit = 12.6 hits.
12.6 attempts to wound = 6.3 wounds.
6.3 armor saves = 3.15 successful wounds.
Now lets analyze the reverse.
WE charge the spearmen. 13 S3 WS5 attacks.
13 attempts to hit = 8.6 hits.
8.6 attempts to wound = 4.3 wounds
4.3 armor saves = 2.15 successful wounds.
Empire counterattack, 13 S3 WS3 attacks
13 attempts to hit = 6.5 hits.
6.5 attempts to wound = 3.25 wounds
3.25 armor saves = 1.63 successful wounds.
So while there is only a 71% higher cost for the WE, overall in combat they are about 89% more effective based on the kill ratio. This doesn't even take into account the leadership advantage of the WE nor does it take into account the possiblity of the empire using detachments. While both could be a factor overall in the actual results.
Please note this is just an example that the WE can hold their own in CC. However, they are many other things to consider. For example the ease at which we can flank thanks to Dryads. How well we can stay in combat compared to some armies thanks to LD. The key is not to think about straight up CC, if you are thinking along these lines you aren't taking full advantage of the WE. The key is to break multiple units and use the panic to quickly route the other units when they begin to panic also. You really need to own the battlefield and dictate control of the field.
Ohh and if the math is bad I am sorry. I am wicked hungover.

sorry for the bad grammer but thank you for the help guys
Why would you want Ogre bulls when you've got Dryads, Wardancers and Treemen?
I don't know. I guess it may be to do with the Bull Charge, and Fanatics won't do near as much agains them as Elves, sorry if you don't use Night Gobbos, I'm just paranoid about them having faced them and lost entire units at a time. Another thing is that Bulls are faster than Wood Elves.
But, I agree with the rest here, they're not very fluffy and aren't quite as good, though I'll be using them to suprise my opponent, thats about it though.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
