A friend has just purchaced one and I fear facing it. I haven't a clue how to beat it with WE, with lack of war machines and killing blow I cannot fathom how to beat it. I can't beat it with magic due to it having MR and it being an army with more than a healthy dose of dispel dice. I don't have the strenght to beat it unless I keep throwing treekin and treemen at it and that ALOT of points. I thought about hiding in trees to stop it flying straight at me but its fast on its feet aswel. I have tested the hammer and anvil on it coz i have a HoC army book at my disposal but my anvil is always walked over before the hammer hits. eternal guard suck agaisnt so many high strength attacks.
He boasts that wood elves cannot beat it unless i design the entire army around it but then that leaves me exposed to beating the army.
I pondered on trying to make it stupid with the arrows and bow of loren but wounding is hard enough then hopeing it fails with its leadership.
I usually take in 2000 points
1 WE highborn on greateagle
bow of loren
1 WE waywatcher
hail of doom
1 WE BsB
1x 10 glade guard
1x 19 eternal guard, eternal, standard bearer with war banner
1x 8-10 dryads
2x 7 waywatchers
1x 3 Treekin
1x 10 waywatchers
BSB goes with eternal guard
Anyways, any help would be much apreciated
I killed one very easily before. I challanged him with my Lord. I had annoyance of Netlings and the Spirit Sword. He did good damage to me. However, I was able to kill him in 2 hits thanks to some good rolling. However, becareful for this backfiring.
The way I beat demons is through winning combat and making them take instability contests. Granted, I've never done this with Wood Elves.
But if you stack up enough combat res, chances are he'll fail a test sooner or later.
My first thought when I saw your thread title (and my eyebrows went up like "that's a crappy prospect") was, like IamJasonK says, the AoN. That can make you survivable against most anything.
So let's say a lord with an AoN, the Armor of the Fey (since demon attacks are magical), a great weapon, and maybe the amber pendant? Then you could pile on other attackers and the demon would strike last because of the pendant, regardless who or what was in contact (like dryads, treekin, or a treeman) that are also pounding the crap out of the thirster?
Or treeman ancient with Annoyance of Netlings?
You might also consider Hagbane Arrows or Dragontooth arrows. Imagine killing him with one Hagbane Arrow. Also the Sword of a Thousand Winters.
There is also the easy way out by taking a Dragon.
the only way to kill him would be to run him down. If you take an eagle, you can make him frenzy in all sorts of weird places. The trick with wood elves is to pick your battles, and its easy to pick them when your movemnt is 10, and he can only frenzy 8, which he is forced to chase the closest, which could be backwards, or to the side in front of chosen khornogate knights, and stuff like that
"This sure ain't no pansy Eldar Armor, Son"
185th Cadian Armored Div.
"One Shot, One Kill"
Western Border Patrol of Athel Loren
Yeah the best way to deal with him is just to keep him busy all game. He's gotta charge, and with 20 inches and him being a large flying target, it's easy to get his attention wit an eagle. Set it up so that after charging your cheap throwaway unit, he's pointed towards a table edge. Take the charge, he must overrun cause of frenzy, and you've spent 50 points to make the thing useless for 2 turns. Take this time to ravage the rest of his army.
At the same time, you could do the same trick, but set it up so that he is lined up where you want him to be. Then, charge him with a unit that can generate some heavy static combat res, and put a character in there. Challenge it, annoyance of netlings means he will inflict maybe 1-2 wounds instead of 6-7. After that just pray he instabilities himself.
The Hierarchy Chaotica: Kinky Sex > Change > Disease > Blood
98% of the population actually believes these stupid statistics. If you're part of the 2% of humanity with a brain, put this in your profile.
Well I would consider the following options to take down this Monster:
1) Dragon Lord
Wood Elf Highborn on Forest Dragon: 558pts
Armour of the Fey
He won't like facing a creature that can charge him just as effectively and wound him easily, and you have a large creature that causes terror to help you smash him!!
2) Treeman Ancient
Treeman Ancient: 400pts
Annoyance of Netlings
Resplendence of Lumincents
Murder of Spites
Again, another large battling creature with a chance of spanking him in a close combat. He won't get his ward save, and only a 6+ armour save against this beast, and the extra poisonous attacks get past his toughness.
Try them out :ninja:

Of course, the real challenge is using the list you already have.
And I'd say do this:
Bait with the treeman. While the bloodthirster is choppy, He really isn't likely to take out a treeman in one round of combat (Two, maybe). Then just keep on treewhacking him (the auto-hit attack affair) and flank charge it afterwards with your treekin if possible.
That should be one dead bloodthirster without having to change your army at all.

Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
Remember that as big and scary as it is, it can only take on one unit at a time unless you charge it with more. Also, don't forget about the rest of his army.
So, I'd say kill the rest of them, drawing the Bloodthirsters attention with. say warhawks. With the rest of his army dead, bomb it with attacks. Save the stuff mentioned in other posts for this.
When he declares a charge, Flee! You'll probably rally next turn so get up closer again and flee again. Use a unit of Warhawks preferably for this. Eventually he should be so ou of position that you will be the charger when it comes down to the crucnh.
Let me know if I was confusing you there or if I was just ranting and I'll try to clarify myself.
Cheers for all the help. I tried the baiting idea, first turn worked like a treat bring him roughly to the centre of the table. Did this with GG scouts and they were able to flee into the free forest so they were safe buyt luckily still in visibility range so i thought he had to charge them next turn coz they were closest, after thinking that had set my army up to finish of their army hoping that the thirster would go into the forest and this would tie it up for a few turns but then go told, and shown, that he can charge anything in range with frenzy so my eternal guard were charged the bsb got killed along side a few eternal guard. I think i got 3/4 attacks back from second rank and without the bsb i had no noble so no bodyguard rule and ran and were cut down then it was behind my lines and i was cut to shreds. picked on my cc units and being mostly skirmishers were easily killed in one turn. The annoyance of netlings i have tried but have never been able to use it. I have tried going complete CC and cant win, tried complete shooting but nada. i think i got it down to half wounds but nothing i have holds against it.
