Hmmm... I can respect the skill it took to sculpt it, but I think it is perhaps a bit too much "man" and not enough "tree", if that makes any sense. One of the things I like about the GW treeman is it seriously looks like a tree that just uprooted itself and started beating ass.
This one looks a bit too human to me. And am I the only one who thinks he looks fat? He looks kinda pot-bellied, and it looks like he's got quite the large ass. Not sure what a tree would eat to get fat, but it just doesn't look right to my eye.
i definitely dig the model, and i like the fact that it looks more man then tree. This may be to the fact the i hate nature(yeah weird isn't it...i play wood elves) and that the GW treeman does look more tree then man and put me through so much pain that i will never forgive it. But i also have to say that the GW treeman also looks very nice.
But you're right. It looks more like a construct or anthropoid than it does a tree. The ass looks a bit like a peeled onion to me.
Anthropoid! That's the word I was looking for. Thanks, Grammar Nazi.
An ass like a peeled onion? Well that's... um... descriptive.
What about this guy?
Or this one?
Check out this freak of the forest!
I do kind of like this one.
This Treeman was also sculpted at MAS.
Here's the one I really dig.
Another favorite, also from MAS.
Why can't I stop?
This big fella makes me think of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator.
But above all others, I pay my greatest homage to this Treeman Ancient, Most Revered of the Woods.
1 - Oooh... this one is very cool. Why does it remind me of the movie "Sleepy Hollow"?
2 - Okay, if this painter is ever willing to paint another leaf ever again, it is indeed a miracle. This one is superbly painted, but I wish I could see more of it. As it is now, it seems to be on the "too much 'tree', not enough 'man'" end of the spectrum.
3 - I like this one and the Sleepy Hollow one for the same reason - true, they look a bit anthropomorph, but at the same time they look very fluffy for WE - fey and majestic. They remind me of oversized dryads.
4 - You come in to look for a king, anybody could be that guy, night is young and the music’s high, with a bit of rock music, everything is fine. You’re in the mood for a dance, and when you get the chance... You are the dancing tree.
5 - You know, I can't quite put my finger on it (maybe because it is 3am and... wait, why the hell am I doing this instead of sleeping?), but I like this one too... it could just be the angriest howling bear/tree thing to ever roam the forest.
6 - This is what happens when Owlbears start humping trees.
7 - Now that one is very cool... looks a bit lumbering, though not stupid (which is a feat unto itself - those two almost always come together).
8 - Holy fangly broccoli! This looks like a Tim Burton version of those old cartoons they used to use to get kids to want to eat their vegetables.
9 - Waaaait a minute. Isn't this just a different paintjob on #5? You tried to trick me.
10 - I'm sensing a trend here... these Scibor sculpts are really freakin' good. The face on this one looks a bit Planet of the Apes to me, but I would definitely use it as a TMA
11 - What is this, the Strigoi version of a treeman?
12 - Yeah... definitely thinking Predator with this one... and not the Arnold Predator either, I'm taling the AvP Predator - you know, when the Predators decided they should suck. Beefy arms and nice paintjob aside, this one looks more insidious than I think a treeman (a WE treeman anyway) should - too Creature from the Black Lagoon.
13 - Ummm... Good nostril, Mr. schnoz, how are you this morning? That thing is hilarious. But, honestly, it kinda creeps me out.
Good lord, that was a lot of treemen! Thanks for the links. As I mentioned, it is 3am, so some of my comments may be a bit off. I reserve the right to edit them later.
I like the first one! Too bad it's over in the auction or I would have bought him! I like the Treeman model that GW put out but I like the Dryad model better. I think the Treeman would be a much better model if he was just a huge Dryad. Maybe that's why I like the first one so much.
If anybody disagrees with me Chuck Norris will roundhouse kick you in the face.....not really. But wouldn't it be cool?
Whew, lost control of myself there for a second.
There are scads more on coolmini. I used the search function for "Treeman." A lot are utter crap, of course.
Scibor's sculpt jobs are pretty amazing, though, aren't they?
