Welcome to Librarium Online!
When i'd played my buddy's anvil last time... he told me that the shots fired only hit the dwarfs on a 5 or 6... but today i found this in the Dwarf FAQ on the gamesworkshop site...
Q.Are shooting hits against the Anvil randomised as
normal for a war machine (eg. 1-4 hitting the Anvil
and discarded, and 5-6 hitting the Dwarfs) or are all
shooting hits resolved against the Dwarfs?A.All shooting hits fall amongst the Dwarfs. The
protection offered by the Anvil is taken into account by
the 4+ ward save granted to the Dwarfs against
Does everyone know this?! This is huge for me
HoDA for the win!
It is a good idea, but seeing as the Anvil doesnt need line of sight, you probably wont get much of a shot at it. Even if you do, the Dwarves guarding it are pretty tough to kill. The Ward save offered by the anvil and pretty good armour, I think. Not to mention the Runelord who Im sure has some pretty good protection of his own.
Ive found that the best way to do it is to use Wardancers. The last two times Ive played Dwarves, Ive been able to get a large unit of Wardancers behind their line and go straight to that Runelord with the Killing Blow dance. Works quite effectively, I must say (not to mention, its great against Master Engineers and the such, as well).
I'm with papa on this one.
The HoDA has to get LOS first and then roll large numbers to wound against a good armour save and ward save.
I've found wardancers work well and a treeman can tie it up as well.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
well, since i'm using Drycha's army for this battle...
I'm hoping i can use a forest behind his line to get inside, and then use the HoDA as i'm moving toward the anvil (since i can't charge the turn I appear)
I usually go for everything else and leave the anvil alone. Usually there are enough VPs to be had elsewhere and runelords can be damned difficult to kill.
Drycha will be fun to play. Let us know how it goes.
