Hey, I'm new to WFB and want to start a Wood Elf army, so I'm wondering if you guys had any tips for me. Like good unit choices, useful links, etc. I'd appreciate anything.
Welcome to LO in particular the Woody section.
First of all, have look at the Forum posting rules and some of the threads in this folder.
http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ves-index.html (Wood Elves Index)
are some links you may wish to explore.
As for good unit choice and the such, they are fairly subjective but a few common themes do keep reoccuring.
Seem to be the one most people tend to have floating around and then in comes down to preference. Some people like waywatchers others don't, some think Glade Riders are a waste of space, others love them. I would suggest going through some army lists in the ArmyList subfolder.
As you are new to WHFB, Wood Elves could be a little difficult at the beginning as they require a fair bit of manouvering to work well. Don't get disheartened if you loose you first few games. It happened to most of us until we worked out how to use the army.
I might let the others have a say
Alright, thanks, I appreciate the info. Also, I've heard some discussion about Warhawk Riders and Great Eagles, are they decent units?
They are good units.
Warhawk riders can do a fair few things in a Wood Elf army;
Hunt warmachines/lone characters
Provide "enemy in the way"
Assassinate characters in units
Great Eagles can;
Hunt warmachines/lone characters
The only real problem with Great Eagles is that they are competing with some very tough cookies in the Rare department. But it will come down to the style of army you wish to play.
As Skars said, welcome to LO and to the Wood Elf board.
Warhawks and eagles are decent units, but you have to bear in mind their strengths and weaknesses. They're great for mobility, march-blocking, flank charging, and adding a little bit of punch wherever you need it. However, their survivability is a bit lax sometimes. They'll meet an untimely end if you're not careful.
Thinking about it, the same can be said for most Wood Elf units.
As far as having Wood Elves be your first army - Wood elves play differently than pretty much every other army in the game. Whereas most other armies rely on blocks of rank-and-file troops, the wood elves rely on speed and maneuverability. You'll definitely learn how to fight the fight on your terms (much to your opponent's chagrin), but aside from that, it doesn't make learning the game significantly more difficult, in my opinion. I learned the wood elves and the system at the same time, and I didn't find it overly difficult. You'll probably lose a few games at first, but the same could be said of most armies.
The links in the Wood Elf index are good for getting an idea of what to expect. Some of the local LO wood elf players are developing a tactica, so watch for it as it starts to take shape.
Again, welcome to LO!
Ok, thanks! I think I'll write up an army list later and run it by you guys, see what you think.
Welcome to LO! As said already, a lot of unit types depend on personal preference and style of play. For example, I hate treemen, but most people swear by them! Most everyone agrees that Glade Guard, Wardancers, and Dryads are very good units and fairly staples for WE. Then it gets to what you like and how much speed you want. Eternal Guard are a great infantry unit but have less mobility. Wardancers are scrimishers and hit hard but are very weak on defence etc. With WE most of your units (unless you play an entire forest spirit army) will be fairly weak on defence but they are still good soliders and are expert kilers, just got to know how to use them and multi-charge the enemy!
Armies: Wood Elves, High Elves

Welcome to LO Aesir
I only started WE a month ago, but the LO boards have been a great sorce of information for me to improve my game, so if you have any queries dont be afraid to ask, all the WE players are a good bunch and can help you out :yes:
Hey guys, I have another question. Something I haven't considered...I've noticed that the WFB codexes are being updated right now, but I'm not aware of the status of the WE one. Is there a new codex for 7th ed rules, or not? I'm wondering if it's worth starting an army right now because of possible rules revisions/unit changes in the near future.
