MP/FB (either i change it each game depending on opponent)
HW/MT ... 77pts
10 fire warriors
ok thats 1000 points
I'm not sure about the deathrains so was wandering whether or not i should change them for one solo helios and a deep striking T/L flamer dude?
any other thoughts pls say!
Today must be the day for people posting mech lists, Rawk:
HQ: looks great, I would suggest just sticking w/ the FB, but that's just me.
Elite: The deathrains are great, keep them, they will be busy popping the AV10/AV11 targets, freeing up your railheads to hunt bigger game or drop pie plates around. As for the Helios/Fireknife suit, my recommendation would be to free up the points to make him into a second Shas'el. This gives you an extra wound, an extra point of BS, an extra point of leadership, and most importantly IC status (which makes him worlds more likely to live). That second open HQ slot is just begging to be used by this suit.
Troops: Solid, like mech tau should be.
Heavy Support: Drop the TL first off. The golden rule for my with TL on 'heads is "If I have it, I would be tempted to use it, and that would be bad." I really don't like my 'heads being within 18" of an infantry target, and if I have a TL, I'm going to be looking to get it within 18", bad things happen there, you give opportunities for people to get lucky, and at times they will. The situation that really caused me to drop TLs from my vehicles was the day that a Space Moron jump commander popped my 'head with a Plasma Pistol (for those of you keeping track at home, yes, that is a 6 followed by a 6, but it happens). My point is, I like to keep my 'heads away from infantry, and when I run out of options and have to shoot at infantry, well then I want to give them the pie plate as well, so no need for a TL. In short I recommend you drop them. Also, the disruption pods, you should be skimming every turn (you have the MTs, as mech tau it's what we do), so the only possible turn you would need a DP is really the first turn, where you can get an obscured tank via woods, building, etc.
So my main recommendation, drop the DPs and TLs....which gives you a handful of points to work with....in fact exactly enough to do what I mentioned in the Elites section.
As a side note, I strongly dislike the deep striking TL Flamer suit, it's too "one shot"ish, bad scatter can put you in the wrong position, a second unit near the unit you can to kill can ruin your day, in general, suits in template range just seem, well, suicidal to me, again my opinion though.
If you let us know what you tactical purpose you want to achieve with the suit you'll get better advice.

the main reason for the flamer suite was to kill those pesky IG heavy weapon teams who stay in cover and whose lascanons can seriously hurt my vehicles, so against guard i take a positional relay too.

thats very gd idea actually, ill change the list around 2mz wen i hav some time, but has any1 gota ny other thoughts pls?
i have to disagree with not taking TL's. though i agree that you should keep your hammerhead as far away as possible, this cant be achieved in every game. also, people always mention that the TL's always "tempt" them to use their burst cannons in the wrong situation. that never happens with me. their always used to when some infantry are getting to close, but i need to blast away another tank or pie plate another squad. the extra 5 points really do make their points back in normally one round of shooting. also, i always have my hammerheads supported by the rest of my army, like everyone should. but i don't pretend an extra 6 shots wont help keep things safe.
Never give up. Never give up. HIT, HIT, HIT, HIT!
I still disagree with the TL. If I want to be shooting at the infantry within 18", 99% of the time I want to give it the pie plate as well. I'm glad you never have had a 'head popped by a plasma pistol or a krak grenade, and I honestly hope that you luck holds like that my friend, but I've not had that luck at times. This has made me a wee bit fanatic about keeping my 'heads out of this range until I'm done with heavy armor targets. Again, this is just a personal preference debate, in the end we're talking about a handful of points, and this whole thing boils down to: "Do I want TLs on my 'heads or do I want an extra gun drone to screen my HQs?" Which will help me more, which will "earn more points" (I personally hate that expression, but I understand why folks use it). It's all what matches folk's play styles more, best bet on them, try them both, figure out what you like more, stick with it.
