Welcome to Librarium Online!
Yes, I want to field a Necron army with no Res Orbs. I'm tired of seeing them and I want to try something new. With that said, this is list will probably play against Tau alot, but I want to be able to turn this into a tournament worthy list with little adjusting. So have a go at it and tell me what you think.
HQ - 185
Lord – Destroyer Body, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Warscythe
Stays in unit with Wraiths
ELITES - 388
6 Flayed Ones
TROOPS - 792
FAST ATTACK - 395
6 Scarab Swarms
HEAVY SUPPORT - 240
Tomb Spyder – Particle Projector
2 Heavy Destroyers
The idea is to get the Lord and Wraiths in combat by turn 2 and start slaughtering. Hopefully deep striking the Flayed Ones behind some terrain to avoid a turn of getting shot up. The Tomb Spyders stay pretty centered and produce scarab swarms when they can to shield it in close combat. Thanks:party:
ok let me take a looksy, with a mind towards playing tau.
firstly, congrats, crons usually do very well against tau.
also, big props on no res orbs, hope you have read my article on their downfalls.
HQ first, the destroyer lord is ok, but i actaully would split him from the wraiths in an effort to have two targets instead of one. i have had some success in the past of using him as a kind of lite monster. with high t he wont be instakilled even by a railgun, and first turn can turbo boost, meaning he should be in combat by second turn. while turboboosted the enemy must make him fail three 3+ invulnerable saves due to the turboboosting rules. If he actually manages to do this, then he will be devoting alot of fire towards the lord, fire not going to the rest of your army. against tau you should certainly consider dropping phylactery and phase shifter, as once in close combat he has nothing to deny your armor save.
onto elites. immortals, good all the time. im glad to see you are actually using flayed ones, infiltration is a great distraction. my suggestion would be to cut out four immortals for another squad of six, as multiple infiltrators will put much more stress on him while only slightly weakening the immortals.
troops look very good, a solid block of warriors will never hurt, you may want to drop a few for pricier toys, as tau easily out range 24 inch guns. but they certainly arent a bad choice do to their survivability.
fast attack, i see you have done what i have found myself doing, all the FA choices crons have are so good, how can you pick one?! my suggestion would be, in this case, to sadly drop the wriaths, as the scarabs and the lord will be fulfilling thier role, you might even want to drop the scarabs as well. with two infiltrating squads and a lord zooming in, tau will have plenty of cc to worry about. also, four destroyers will die fairly quickly, as the tau player should realize how devestating they can be to him. one more thing about scarabs, you know the railheads the opponent is sure to bring will try and shoot a large blast at them, killing them all likely in one shot.
onto heavy support. honestly, drop the tomb spyders. i love making things work that people rarely use, but unless the army is centered around them, or facing a more cc based opponent, they are of little use. against tau, they will likely never reach combat to begin with. use points left over to bulk out your heavy destroyers certainly, and my advice is to more destroyers as well. but the other FA slots are valid, its up to you.
well thats as efficient as i can think of, hope that helped!
too many, gave up counting. rough estimates of 10% even steven, 25% omg i lostorz! and 65% PWNED NEWBS! ^^
<Tossy> Crons are freaking invincible!
Drop the Spyder with particle projector and split the Hdes into 2 units.
As i said on chat, give the Lord a Res Orb and loose its scyte. If you really dont want an Orb though then look at the Gaze of Flame.
The FO unit may be better off infiltrating that dep striking. Another Wraith unit would be a good idea but i dont know which other fast attack unit to recommend to drop.
