I've decided to collect Tyranids for my next army. I'm gonna start out with 1500 and here's what i have come up with, tell me what think.
Adrenal Glands (+1 WS)
Adrenal Glands (1+ WS)
Adrenal Glands (1+WS)
Adrenal Glands (+1WS)
2 Scything Talons
the list is good the only things i would change are the rending claws on the hive tyrant as he doesnt need them. so replace the rending claws with an extra pair of scything talons
as for the warriors they can either be winged or leaping not both so choose what you want to do with those
troops are nice and id remove the scything talons from the genestealers and give them extended carapace so they survive against tau pulse weapons and bolters. and do the same and give the brood lord and his stealers extended carapace other than that it looks good
I agree with Devilslicer, the Tyrant is strong enough not to need rending claws.
My Tyrant has wings, 2xscything talons, adrenal glands (+1 WS), toxin sacs, warp field
And in games it has proved a real cc killer. Almost nothing can stand in its way (save a titanic battle against a demon prince which due to simultaneous attacks they killed each other).
My Warriors have scything talons, rending claws, leaping, adrenal glands (+1 I) and no, they can having leaping or wings, but not both.
In my experience given synapse range of 12" leaping Warriors can keep pace with the gaunts keeping them in synapse range and it gives excellent cc abilities.
I don't give any upgrades to my Hormagaunts, too much of a points sink. They are there to engage the enemy and keep them tied up until the Warriors, Genestealers etc arrive.
Again as Devilslicer has said the Genestealers don't need scything talons, but do benefit from extended carapace.
I'm not sure about 8 Genestealers with the Broodlord, especially as they really must infiltrate due to losing fleet of claw, so nine bodies might be hard to hide in/behind cover.
I like the gun Carnifex. Mine also has reinforced chitin that gives it +1 wound. Really useful in my opinion as it tends to stand still and shoot. It also means an opponent has to pour even more fire into it. I'm also thinking of the +1 save biomorph to really make it one seriously tough killing machine. In my games this unit has easily been the best - so much so that I am thinking of buying another.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies,
Well, i played with this list a few day ago using a friends models though i had a brood of 12 instead of 8 but they shot to hell by squad of splinter cannon scourges. The next turn there was 4 left and they got the charge in against a Talos and they rended the crap out of it.
So i see your point on why extended carapace would be more useful than a second set of scything talons. (only have enough for one brood though)
And I like the idea of making my carnifex tougher so, he now looks like this;
Got the points for this by removing leaping from the winged warriors. Oh and i switched the rending claws for scything talons on the Tyrant.
Again, thanks for the help
Also, scything talons can make genestealers TOO good. It is a waste to blow through a unit on your charge, leaving them unengaged during your opponenets turn so they can be shot.
hmm . Aye, that's something for me to consider. Thanks for the advice.
