Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm putting together a shooty army for when I'm visiting some friends over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
- Lord w/ VoD and Res. Orb
- Immortal x 10
- Warrior x 10
- Warrior x 10
- Destroyer x 4
- Scarab Swarm x 6 (w/ Disruption Field)
- Heavy Destroyer x 2
You may like to check my math, but that should come out to exactly 1501 Points. (I know its just over the limit, but it's a friendly game, not a tournament)
Now, my plan is a fairly basic shooty army. My friend will most likely be playing either Grey Knights or Tyranids, both of them are assault based armies. The Res Orb is with the lord and immortals as an insurance policy against his crazy power weapons. They'll be going straight for the terminators or carifex and if they find themselves in close combat with such enemies, I'll be very glad I had the res orb. In the same venue, thats the purpose of the Heavy Destroyers and the Disruption Scarabs. They'll be going after the tanks/dreadnoughts, etc.
Overall, I've had terrible trouble with keeping my guys out of close combat. I've played against his GK and been spanked each time. (Though that could be because I've been playing the game since March and he's been playing since '9 Be it as it may, I've come to fear his terminator squad with their crazy power weapons, let alone his commander with his stinkin force weapon!
Thanks for looking! If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!
Good list overall. Personally i dont like Heavy7 Destroyers as ther are so expensive for what they do, but if you keep them, just make sure you split them into two units of 1.
For a genaral game though, i think 2 units of 3 Destroyers would be far better than 1x4Des and 2x1Hdes. Depends on you though. It looks like a solid shooty list so you should do fine.
Thanks for the insight! What I wouldn't give to have our Heavy Destroyers twin-linked! (But thats a whole other topic)
Do you think this army setup will be effective against assault-based armies? In the past I would shoot like the dickens for the first few turns but eventually he'd get me in CC and then it was over for the Necrons. Hence, the reason I dropped the cash and picked up a Monolith! My overall tactic will be to keep at a distance with the warriors and use the Monolith to zip them away if they get in trouble. Secondly I'll be throwing the lord/immortals around looking for the termies. They'll also be supported by the destroyers. The only way I can think of taking them out is simply forcing as many saves as I can. I can only hope that through a wave of Gauss he'll roll a few bad saves. (If there's a better way to knock out those stinking terminators, let me know!!) The scarabs with d-fields will be going tank hunting and pending a few good dice rolls, they'll move in to tie up infantry afterwards.
Overall, does this sound like a decent and sound battle-plan? Currently he's working on finishing his Tyranid army, so I'm not sure if I'll be playing against them yet. (Though its likely he'll have them done in 1-2 months time) Of the few games I've played so far I've been crushed miserably, but I account that to my inexperience as an army commander. I think with a well constructed plan, my Necrons can give him a pretty good run for his money.
Let me know what you think! Thanks!
For going against Assault based opponants, you have it pretty spot on. Use the VoD and Lith to keep your distance, and pound them with Gauss.
As for killing Termies... Hdes are an expensive waste. Pariahs work if you get the charge, possibly wraiths too. Apart from that, gauss flayers at short range en mass should bring them down eventually.
