ok im going up against my mate who has 'crons. Any general tips to use against them to ensure a win?
btw we're playin 500 points
they will get no WWB roll
something like this
5 gaudians 65
5 gaudians 65
5 gaudians 65
5 Dark Reapers 217
17 str 6-5 ap 3 and ap 2 shots a turn.
he wont be getting well be back rolls :]
just use this at a template.
there is a little thing called a resurecction orb. i think most necron players use it. doesn't it allow we'll be back rolls?he wont be getting well be back rolls :]
Wait I thought you needed str8 (or double toughness) when shooting to deny the WBB roll. (or powerweapons in melee) SO starcannons wouldn't do it.
Also there are no 5 man guardian units anymore. I think gingerfish is working out of the old codex.
At the OP are you playing a regular 500 point game or a combat patrol or other special ruled game. That will affect what you and they can bring.
If it's a regular 500 point game than after they take the minimum 2 troop choices and a lord they'll only have enough points left over for a cheap unit like wraiths or scarabs. Or they'll just have the two warrior units and a lord with some gear.
You could easily outrange him except I think they could just fit in the necron teleporter wargear for their lord, and that's what I would do.
A pair of holo+spirit stone prisms would be very very nasty. They would also have trouble with many of our aspect warriors. If you can have banshees charge in at doomed necrons there will be no WBB rolls unless the lord is around and has the orb. And even then the necrons would be in trouble. Scorps would also fair well since the claw would rip through necrons and in general the scorps are better.
Singing spears backed by an autarch or farseer could also be brutal. Just make sure that you put down the power weapon toting lord on the charge.
It needs to be either strength double their toughness or a close combat attack that ignores armor saves in order to get rid of wbb. I play necrons, and in my experience, the necrons do vastly better if there is a monolith, so at 500 pts you probably don't have much to worry about.
Yeah here is what i was thinking...
Get a farseer with singing spear, doom, mind war, runes of witnessing
9 dire avengers with exarch, shuriken cats, bladestorm
9 dire avengers with exarch, power wep, shimmershield, defend
3 dark reapers, misille launcher
513(its a friendly so im allowed a bit over:happy
I think he has a lord(beefed up as well) and 2 troop choices with 3 elites i think. He has got veil of darkness and that orb thing i think.
Sorry i forgot to allowed 550 points. Should i get more reapers or max dire avengers troop choices and beef them up?
And then keep warping if needed to keep rapid fire pressure on the DA.
Mind war could be very nice on a lucky roll though! (So if he's smart he'll try to get a wraith mixed up with the farseer in short order or something like that.
If those are the forces you have though, just go for it. I'd suggest using the DA to screen the reapers from the necrons teleport attempts.
I think I would consider cheapening the farseer to witchblade and a single power (note that the spear is only str 9 against vehicles, it won't deny WBB rolls either). Each power has it's place here. Even fortune as only the lord should be ignoring armor saves.
And maybe cheapen up the DA a bit. Maybe drop the exarcs/shrink the squad sizes.
With the extra points try to add in something of a CC unit they'd be scared of. Such as maybe a wraithlord.
This has turned into an army list thread, so I'm going to stick in the Necron army list subforum.
