hi guys im a bit of a noob and i was wondering if my 1st attempt at a 1500 list is actually at all good. not looking for an uber competitive list, just a general to fight a variety of bad guys. cheers in advance
spirit stones 120
6 pathfinders 144
6 warp spiders
2nd spinner 159
1500 on the nose.
the dragons go in the falcon, the avengers go in the serpent, prob with the seer.
Not a bad first attempt. Lets just go over it a little bit:
Hq looks fine, put him with the DA and he'll be able to use his powers well. Look for 3 pts to give him a singing spear to deal with tanks that get to close to this unit.
Elites: Fire dragons, alot of people like to put them in falcons so youre fine for assuming that is a good tactic. Some say that it is a waste, but we wont get into it. Drop the exarch as he isnt necessary, at 6 men without exarch they are fine.
Scorpions, get them up to 10 men.
Troops, DA need to be at 10 strong and you need to switch the EML off of your wave serpent for the popular scatterlasers or for MEQ destroying starcannons. More versatile choices compared to EML for killing what your DA will probably be going after.
I guess you too pathfinders because they are a cheap choice, or to sort of support your scorpions, but they arent that good and wont be alot of help in your list. For 144 pts you can get a good jetbike unit or two. 3 jetbikes with a shuriken cannon is a popular choice that is a nice distracting unit which works well with fast lists.
Fast attack, only comment is the spiders need to be at 10 man strong or close to it. This will help them be effective. Consider adding powerblades but it isnt a must.
Heavy support, wow. You probably should drop your wraithlord as it is really slow compared to everything else in your list. Besides the swords arent that good and you have plenty of anti tank with falcon, fire prism and fire dragons already.
Dropping the WL gives you back 140 pts, dropping the pathfinders gives you another 144, thats 284 plus pts from the exarch in the dragons. Use those to get 1-2 solid jetbike units to fly with your grav tanks. Whatever is left can be used to up the spiders to 10 and add a scorpion/ Avenger in.
I agree that wraithlord and pathfinders should probably be dropped, and that DA and scorps should be beefed up to 10. I haven't used fire dragons, so I won't make any recommendations there, but I've consistently seen lists with no exarch.
It is generally recommended, but not necessary, to field fire prisms in pairs, that way you have the option of supercharging. Taking out the wl would almost get you enough points to take another prism exactly like your current one.
