Out of Interest, what is the most effective Tau combat patrol army list that experienced Tau Players have seen or even played..........
On other forums some of the other Combat patrol army lists look pretty awesome......
Such as the Eldar, Chaos, Orcs and Necron (11warriors, 4 Destroyers!!!!!!!), amazing considering its only 400pts!
Never give up, Never surrender
A Fireknife commander, a helios commander, a small unit of firewarriors, one deathrain and 3 stealths. Only 9 points over and your whole army (apart from the FW) can JSJ making it almost impossible for anyone to touch you.
I usually take 2 x 2 Deathrains, 1 unit of 10 FWs, 2 units of 10 Kroot (1 with 1 Hound!) and a Piranha and I love the flexibility and potential this list gives me, whoever and whatever I play against.

You can only have one HQ option in combat patrol, so you'd need to lose either the Helios or Fireknife commander (unless you meant team leader, in which case you could take both).
I typically find that a Fireknife (usually with a targetting array) and Deathrain are enough to deal with whatever armoured threats appear in a CP game. After that, a small Stealth Team and some Firewarriors will do wonders on the opposing infantry. Drones work well for this as well, and have the added bonus of JSJ.
I don't have the codex in front of me, but my list will usually look something like this:
Fireknife team leader with targeting array
3 stealth suits
However many Fire Warriors I can afford
The Fire Warriors provide a static firebase, which is supplemented by the agile Stealth Team. These two units work together to lay down a lot of shots into infantry units. The Fireknife and Deathrain will quickly take down skimmers and transports and then help out mopping up the infantry. There is a lot of firepower and mobility in this list, which are both strengths of the Tau.
My combat patrol I've done best with is 28FWs and 2 DRs.
That's still a kickover from my small army days though.
What do you do when it's 5 in the morning, you're exhausted and you only have 3 hours until your alarm clock goes off?
