I admit, there is no definite strategy with this list. It's simply filled with many units that I haven't had the chance to try yet.
Still, I'm interested in everyone's opinions, especially in regards to the setup, the numbers in each unit, and the best way to play them. I'd rather not cut a type of unit completely out of the list, if it can be helped, but I'm open to all ideas:
Warboss on bike w/powerklaw, cybork (130)
20 Shoota boyz w/2 rokkits and nob w/powerklaw and bosspole (180)
7 Nob bikers w/2 powerklaws, painboy, cybork bodies, waugghh banner, bosspole (450)
12 Kommandos w/2 burnas and Snikkrot (235)
Rokkit buggy (35)
15 Storm boyz w/nob, powerklaw, bosspole (220)
5 Deffkoptas w/big shootas and 1 w/buzzsaw (190)
Big gunz w/kannon (20)
Big gunz w/kannon (20)
Big gunz w/kannon (20)
My strategy is to run the quick units around the sides, while the storm boyz and shoota boyz charge up the middle, distracting my opponent. The kommandos will come in and disrupt my opponent's plans, take out their hard to reach units, or simply go for an objective. All the while, the cheap and expendable big gunz units will fire away, to cause a little damage, and distract my opponent away from the real threats.
Well, it seems to be a good mix. I've found that using a lot of different squad types can work. You have speed with your Nobs. Koptaz and Stormboyz, you have Snikrot who can hopefully take something out turn two or three but I have to say I' not too fond of naked Kannons. I know you have three so if you lose one at 20 points its shots not being fored at your stormboyz or kommandos. Also I don't know if the shoota boyz will get close fast enough. I would want an extra HQ in a warphead for the shoota mob and maybe drop the Kannons but that's just me.
I see what you mean about kannons. There's a fine line between expendable units and throwaway units, but as long as they each soak up a hit a piece (or cause a casualty or two), I still believe they're points well spent.
I'd honestly drop them if there was something else more worthwhile, but I'm not sure if a warp 'ead would help much. The shoota boyz are the only unit that would benefit from them, and although the 'shooting' powers are nice, I think I'd prefer three kannons.
Is there another use for the warp 'ead I'm missing or forgetting about?
Oh, and how does the deffkopta setup look to you? I've never used them before, so I wasn't sure if all big shootas + 1 buzzsaw would work or not.
In this list, the waaaagh would only affect the shoota boyz themselves, so isn't really helpful.
The firepower is really nice, which makes the warp 'eads very tempting, but I didn't feel there was enough reason overall for them in the list.
Have you had more success deep striking with them? Every time I've seen it used, it always seems to end in disaster. The only interesting plan I've heard concerning that ability is attaching the warp 'ead to tankbustas, and deep striking them behind enemy tanks. Even then, it seems risky.
Actually i've had good and bad luck. Of course, I'm laying ORKS! I have good and bad luck with my SaG Mek as well but I still use him. My view on DSing Shoota Boyz is that they are going to get shot up regardless moving towards the enemy. i would rather DS them, get of a round of shooting, take a few casualties and then shoot and assault again. Also it can help take out a whole flank as your Bikes and Koptas are very mobile and you can isolate a whole section of the table by combing shooting and assault.
But look, if you prefer kannons I get it. As i said they are nice distraction at the points cost and i sometimes field one myself ... I even have a great picture of mine ... I am currently doing up a list with more grots and less bikes (blasphemy i know) but I also like to experiment. It will have two BWs one w/ tankbustas and one w/burnas, SaG Mek, deffdread, grots, a buggy maybe a trukk mob. All list don't have to conform to the 'competitive' standards!
shameless plug for some of my mad painting skills
Looks really nice. I especially like the work you did on the grotts. The bases look really sweet too. What did you use for that, if you don't mind me asking? The GW flocking or something else?
I'm actually not as hooked on big guns as I sound. I guess my real main concern is that the list doesn't have enough units in it. Right now there's 9, but if I went with a warp 'ead, or a similar unit that I attached to the shoota boyz, there'd only be 6.
I know a lot of people love fielding around a 35 model ork army (thanks to biker nobz), but it still makes me a little squeamish. I want something to keep my opponent's attention for the first two turns of the game.
It's kind of like back when I played Tau. I loved using those Kroot. They caused a little damage, and then were killed to a man, but by then it was turn 3, and the rest of my army had been ignored. I guess that's what I was going for.
Thanks for all the help!

Those are pure old school GW focking and bases. i did them quite a while ago and just recentl;y decided they were to nice to sit in a box. Here are more pics of my grots ...
Okay I am shameless!
Well, three Kannons vs one warphead is not that big a stretch in numbers. A Kannon will claim objectives, lol.
Nice! Those are really well painted grotts. Good job. Are those metal grotts? It's been forever since I've seen metal ones, instead of the spear, spiky helmet variety. Very cool.
I have to admit, painting is really my weakness. I love converting models out of random pieces, and most of it has come out really well (I have to post a few pictures), but for the life of me, I can't paint. Well...I can, but it either takes forever, or doesn't come out very well. Any advice/sites for a mediocre model painter?
