    [1507] Tau hybrid?

    Hi,

Mostely i play mech tau but the last games with objectives etc i want to stick back to static troop choice with mobile crisis suits , stealth and a ionhead backup ( agressive attack ) The static part with firewariors, broadsides and railhead will give backup fire. I also want to markerlight units with a pathfinder unit. Is this a kind of hybrid tau or what does it mean.

    My troops:

    5 crisis
    6 stealth
    2 broadsides
    2 hammerhead
    2 devilfish
    1 piranha
    24 firewariors
    12 kroot
    6 pathfinders
    16 drones

    grtz

I wouldn't really say static tau exists anymore, your list with static fire warriors is most certainly hybrid.

Not sure how a name can be so important though.

And that's just with the Kroot.

    hybrid

Well i was thinking about this list: ( 1507 points )

    Hq

    shas'el ( FB, PR, TA, HWMT ) 97 points

    TROOPS

    12 x FW ( pulse rifle, 1 shas'ui bonded ) 135 points
    12 x FW ( pulse rifle, 1 shas'ui bonded ) 135 points

    ELITES

    2 shas'ui ( PR, MP, MT ) 124 points
    2 shas'ui ( TLMP, TA ) 106 points
    4 stealth ( TA ) 120 points

    FAST ATTACK

    6 x pathfinders ( Pulse carbine , markerlight , shas'ui ) 70 points
    1 x devilfish ( BC, SMS, MT, decoy, TA ) 120 points
    1 x piranha ( FB, TA, MT, TA ) 85 points

    HEAVY SUPPORT

    1 x railhead ( RG, BC, MT, decoy, DP ) 175 points
    1 x ionhead ( IC, BC, MT, decoy, DP ) 140 points
2x broadside (TL railgun, stabilization system,SMS,team leader, 2 defense drones,HW Target lock) 200 points.

I gonna test this out against eldar.

    He's a good choice,keep him
    TROOPS

    12 x FW ( pulse rifle, 1 shas'ui bonded ) 135 points
    12 x FW ( pulse rifle, 1 shas'ui bonded ) 135 points

Decent, don't much like unmounted FW but they'll do ok i supose, drop the bonding knives tho.
    ELITES

    2 shas'ui ( PR, MP, MT ) 124 points
    2 shas'ui ( TLMP, TA ) 106 points
    4 stealth ( TA ) 120 points

The 4 stealth either have no TA and are worth 120, or have TA and are worth 160.Since you don't have to points for TA, i assume they don't have it.The crisis suits are fine
    FAST ATTACK

    6 x pathfinders ( Pulse carbine , markerlight , shas'ui ) 70 points
    1 x devilfish ( BC, SMS, MT, decoy, TA ) 120 points
    1 x piranha ( FB, TA, MT, TA ) 85 points

    Drop the pathfinders,piranha is fine.
    HEAVY SUPPORT

    1 x railhead ( RG, BC, MT, decoy, DP ) 175 points
    1 x ionhead ( IC, BC, MT, decoy, DP ) 140 points
2x broadside (TL railgun, stabilization system,SMS,team leader, 2 defense drones,HW Target lock) 200 points.

Drop all the DP's,pretty useless.Switch the ionhead to a railhead, broadsides are fine
I gonna test this out against eldar.
With the 195 points you should save by dropping the PF,the Bonding knifes, and the DP's,you switch the ionhead for a railhead, buff up your 4 man stealth squad to a 6 man (you didn't have TA on your stealth in your original list judging by the point cost, don't add now) and with the remaining 135 points i woud either:add a good kroot squad (10-12 kroots+ 6 hounds),add a Shas'el either Fireknife and helios, or get a devilfish for one of your FW squads
-A tau, dark eldar and slaanesh csm player
    -vassal player

    armylist

K stealth were a mistake. But why no pathfinders it seems that nobody likes them but if you see wat markerlights has from effects. Never used them so i am interested in what they offer in battle.

Just moving this to Tau army lists

As for Pathfinders... they only seem to be useful for the markerlights... and that unless your shas'ui has a target lock, you have to fire all those markerlights at one unit, which could turn out to be a waste of shots.
Mind you, the up side of that is, you could spam one unit with markerlight hits and then use it increase the BS for other units for example.
BUT the Pathfinders have to have line of sight and be in range of the target you'd want to light up... so sometimes you might find their useless in one game, useful in the next.

If you haven't used them before, give them a try for a few games and get to know the rules for them, that way you can have experiance in using them and can make a better decision on whether or not you want to use them

Im still kind of new to tau, but i find pathfinders useful if there is a threatening force getting close, and you run some fast moving FWs in a DF that are ready to rapid fire anything getting close and maybe some low AP crisis suits nearby. The BS3 is really annoying though.
