I got a list in progress for an upcoming 1000pts Ork vs Tyranid tonight. Terrain is likely to be on the high side and the opponent does like his "re-roll wound" and blast template weaponry.
This is what I have in progress at the moment, but however I'm uncertain as to what HQ will be useful against them. The Big Mek with SAG will likely get infiltrated genestealers ripping him up, the warboss is just a glorified nob leader and the warphead will have little use as well.
Even after taking a HQ choice I will likely have about 75 ish points left and I'm not sure what would be useful. Buggies were tempting but I don't think Rocket Buggies will do very much against a horde of nids, and is 30 points worth it for a vehicle with T/L big shootas on it?
The only other issue is the transport for the Burna Boyz. Flamers will own against nids but the looted wagon is easily destroyed. However is taking a battlewagon with 4 Big Shootas on it a bit excessive for 1000 points and whats to stop a Carnifex ripping it to pieces?
List as it stands so far:
3 x Truck Squads consisting of:
12 x Slugga Boyz inc Nob with PK and Bosspole - 147 each
1 x Shoota Squad consisting of:
25 x Shoota Boyz inc 2 x Big Shoota and Nob with PK and Bosspole - 200
10 x Burna Boyz inc 2 Meks with KMB's 150
Looted Wagon with 2 x Big Shoota - 45 (for Burna Boyz)
What changes could be made as I think Orks vs Nids is going to be a complete bloodbath! 8X
What HQ do you have in mind? I'd go with a big mek w/SAG, or standard warboss with powerklaw and cybork. If you want to make sure the burnas stay alive in close combat, attaching a warboss with a bosspole would help, or he could be attached to boyz in a trukk.
Yes, a battlewagon with 4 big shootas is excessive, but a battlewagon with one big shoota isn't.
I'd either give the burnas a battlewagon with a big shoota (and perhaps grot riggers), or up the 25 boy unit up to the full 30. That, and the trukks could use some rams.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Well unfortunately your post was after the game had finished, but in the end I stuck with a looted wagon (which survived till end unlike the burnas inside it - got unlucky with wound rolls on genestealers then got assaulted by termagaunts also) and added 2 rocket buggies with a Big Mek with SAG - which for the 3rd time in about 5 games has managed to not kill much and teleport himself in assault - im starting to lose faith in this Mek I really am! Maybe a warboss would be nicer!
It evolved from 1 on 1 to a 2 v 2 Orks/DH vs Nids/Chaos battle with the Recon mission. Wiped the floor with them, though it was anyones game by Turn 3. Carnifex died in one volley of power klaw attacks which was cool, but I have to say the Lash of Submission is way cheesy and overpowered. For 25 points he can bunch all my ork shootas up into a big ball then use the Defiler to battle cannon them, thats cheese by any means!
Got my own back though, buggy blew up his Defiler from front AV and made it explode taking out 4 inches worth of hormagaunts that was right behind it! Haha 11 gaunts fried!
Yeah, but that's what Old Zogwort is for... "Hi, your 200pt Daemon Prince is using Lash? Okay, roll a die. Oh look, you're a Squig now!"
But yeah Lash is harsh.
