Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello everyone. I've been out of the 40K scene since 3rd edition but after hearing so many people raving about 5th ed., I thought I'd check into it. I've played Space Marines and Tyranids in the past and would like something different. I love the Eldar models and they have some great troops so I thought I'd give them a try. Here's my first attempt at designing a core army that's easy to build upon as time (and money) allow. I welcome all advice as I haven't bought any models yet.
Farseer: Doom, Runes of Warding - 95 pts
10 Howling Banshees: Exarch w/Executioner, War Shout, Acrobatic - 327 pts
+ Wave Serpent w/TL SLaser, ShCannon, Stones
10 Dire Avengers: Exarch w/2 ShCat, Bladestorm - 297 pts
+ Wave Serpent w/TL BL, Stones
10 Dire Avengers: Exarch w/2 ShCat, Bladestorm - 282 pts
+ Wave Serpent w/TL EML, Stones
Total: 1001 pts
My idea is to have the Farseer join the Banshees; they'll use the Serpent to assault to enemy. I will use at least one of the DA squads to support the Banshee push. The second DA squad will hold another objective. After unloading their squads, the Serpents will support them directly or hunt other targets.
I realize that there aren't that many models in this army but I've always believed in maxing out my squad numbers (maybe the Tyranid in me). These seem like some heavy hitting units that could hold their own.
Again, please critique the army. I'd like to get one I really like before going down to the local game store to throw down a wad of cash. BTW, this is great site - I'm so glad I found it. Thanks.
I don't normally use runes of warding, since quite often I find myself facing an opponent that doesn't use psykers.
Also, imo, war shout is a waste of points due to the fact that it only works if the enemy fails a leadership check.
The shuriken up-grade on the Banshee wave serpent also seems like a waste to me. In 5th edition, it no longer counts as a defensive weapon, and your wave serpent will likely be moving fast enough while transporting the banshees, that it won't get to use it much.
I would lose these, and opt for a second pair of brightlances on the EML wave serpent. I would opt for runes of witnessing on my farseer. That should make your total 996.
Otherwise, looks like a balanced list.

Thanks for the advice, Scorpion. It is greatly appreciated.
