500points Tau: Two lists which one

Well although I've got a 2000point list I want to play straight away so 500 points seems a good starting place.
The Commander Shas'el will pretty much have to stay as it is since i only have access to Missile pod, Fusion Blaster and Flamer. I am using normal XV8 as Commander untill higher points games so it shouldn't matter too much.

    List One

    Hq
    Commander Shas'el 72
    - Twin-Linked Missile Pod
    - Flamer

    Troop
    12 Fire Warriors 205
    Devilfish
    - Disruption Pod

    Troop
    11 Fire Warriors 220
    1 Shas'ui
    - Bonding Knife
    Devilfish
    - Disruption Pod

    497 points
    3 units 2 scoring units

    Or

    Hq
    Commander Shas'el 72
    - Twin-Linked Missile Pod
    - Flamer

    Troop
    12 Fire Warriors 205
    Devilfish
    - Disruption Pod

    Troop
    12 Fire Warriors 145
    - Shas'ui
    - Markerlight
    - Bonding Knife

    Troop
    11 Kroot Carnivore

    499 Points
    4 Units 3 Scoring units

So A. Are either of these any good if so B. Which ones the best and why
and C. If there both rubbish what do suggest

Any other Comments, hints or anything else helpful is greatly appreciated

Just a quick comment: if you are playing just-for-fun games, as long as you state to your opponent who has what(if they aren't wysiwyg) I don't think they'll mind. Tournament wise, they're a bit more strict(from what I've read).

That said, let's see what you have.

First off, markerlights, in my opinion, are pretty useless in troops and at this point value. To use them means you'd have to not move your ML squad(ML is a heavy weapon), fire it, hit, and then hit the same unit with either your other FW squad or your suit.

Your commander has a mixed bag of goodies, but at this point value, I think that's fine. You'll only be able to fire one, but since they'll be against two different types of units, it works.

EDIT: This is in refrence to your first list. It's much a bit more mobile then your second list, with a lower troop count, but I think it'd work.

I guess i didnt notice about Markerlight being heavy as the Firewarriors weapons are rapid fire anyway.
I think i will class the Shas'el as something different, hes only a normal XV8 anyway. To me it looks a good build for a normal XV8 just not superb as Shas'el
Should I A. Add bonding knives to both units by removing 3 Fire Warriors B. Add Decoy Launchers to Devilfish by removing 1 Fire Warrior or C. Do both

    Hq
    Shas'el
    - Fusion Blaster
    - Plasma rifle
    - Targetting Array
    - Hard-Wired Multi Tracker

    Troop
    12 Fire Warriors
    Devilfish

    Troop
    12 Fire Warriors
    Devilfish

    497 points
    3 units 2 scoring units

With that troop count, I wouldn't worry about the knives(if you can keep your fish inbetween them and your FW's.

I would take the decoy's, though. If you get an immobilized roll I think the ship gets destroyed if you move it too fast. That, and the troops die inside as well.

I'm not really sure on that one though, I'm a bit sick so things aren't straightforward for me! Check your 40k rulebook on immobilizied results on skimmers.

Your right about the moving too fast thing.

On the Fire Warriors surely the fewer there are the more that Bonding Knifes are needed if I'm wrong I'm wrong.
