I'm wondering how well a rough list like this might work for all comers.
farseer on jetbike
howling banshees in wave serpent (with EML)
guardians with scatter laser (for defending objectives)
guardian jetbikes, 10-12 (for taking objectives)
two squads of two vipers with star cannons
one squad of two vipers with bright lances
two fire prisms
squad of three war walkers with all scatter lasers.
This is just off the top of my head rough, does it seem too unbalanced?
To me, this list looks like a nice mech focused list that seems to have enough to take care of most things. I really like the combination of the walkers and the fire prisms.
The vypers i'm fine with, but I don't think the bright lance on them is a good idea, as 1 bs 3 shot is kinda questionable. Also, I have no experience with Jetbikes, but what seems to be what other people in this forum do is to break them up into smaller groups so you have more troops and to give them a warlock or something.
ok, it looks good from the start. i like banshees a lot. they have earned their points back numerous times for me. war walkers...what can i say? they are game winners for me. people who play me must not know about them, because, as easy as they are to kill, they will take out far more than the average 60 point investment. i would go so far as to say, use 6, and drop the scorps. in the long run, 3 more WW's, with guide/doom will do FAR more damage to the enemy then the average 10 man squad of scorps. not to say i don't like scorps, but, imo banshees and walkers are more bang for your buck. banshees are great because, for around 190 pts, u can get a 10 man squad, that will usually hit first, no matter what, even if YOU are charged! and because of their special ability, even if u get charged, u still get the extra attack a round! fantastic for taking out squads of termi's or assault marines! power armor...BAH!! We got power WEAPONS! and go FIRST!! haha! drop the guardians with the scat laser, and pick up a 10 man squad of DA's with bladestorm/dual cat setup, much better for defending objectives, imo. drop the jetbikes down to 2 grps of 3 and give them each a warlock with singing spear, and watch your opponent cry when you deploy. yeah, that little guy right there is going to take out just as much armour as your prisms (if used in that way). i like the 2 vyps with EMLs, but lances are more expensive, and only a little better. well. its nice for pen's on 4's and up always, so, its your call. EML's are more useful in more situations, lances are for when u KNOW you will be up against someone with a lot of high armour value's. i like vyps, they r nice...mobile, deadly. don't take the upgraded cannon, waste of 10 pts in 5th edition. no rangers, yes pathfinders. 5 xtra pts a piece will make them all buy invincible, and opponents typically see them, and go "oh shit oh shit oh shit" and then they bombard them with fire, and as long as they are in cover, good luck killin them with their 2+ save. meanwhile, your infinately more deadly war walkers, made it through another round of combat, and will be pumping out 24 s6 shots the next round. eat it! anyways, these ideas may not be your play style, as each eldar player has his or her own style, but i believe that they are improvements. i have around 10-11000 pts, and have only been playing about 10 monthes, however in those 10 monthes, i have done a lot of gaming, and a lot of reading on this board. these people on this site know wtf they are talking about, and if someone else, with a good size number of posts, disagrees with anything i say, i would take their advice over mine, as they are probably the more experienced player. eldar are such a finicky lot too. you can make a "perfect" list, and still end up being decimated. or, u could make an off the cuff list, with no real thought, and end up winning big time. if u really wanna make some ppl cry even more, add in the avatar. he soaks up mad mad mad shots, usually without taking a single hit, and, once again, your WW's are there to pwn hard. for us eldar, its all about keeping the focus elsewhere, and not on what we don't want you to see. like, for instance, the 3 war walkers walking behind buildings, getting ready to murder your home base. or, the swooping hawks of death, 'nadin your tanks. same thing with the good ole dragons in the falcon bit. which would actually be a good add for this army. with that, u would be able to drop the 2 vyps with lances easy. just take a falcon, load em up with an EML and a 5 man squad of FD's, with all the trimmings, and if u want, u could put a farseer in with them. ive givin u a lot of options, hope i didnt confuse u, and let me know if there is anything else that i can answer for u!
ps-sorry about the wordyness. i just realized i wrote a book.
The general idea of the list I like alot, would recommend splitting the bikes into two groups of 6 with a warlock give the lock a spear and embolden and they become a very nice all around unit that can take a few hits and do damage to infantry and tanks alike. As the others have noted the brightlance on the vyper is very risky if you feel you need another AT weapon maybe give it to your wave serpent the TL makes it more reliable. Might be hard to get it all in the points you listed but the nice firebase of walkers, rangers and fireprisms supporting the advance of the CC units and the bikes grabbing objectives/holding the flanks could be very effective.
travasty your post cracked me up, it sounded like you drank about 5 cups of coffee then typed stream of consciousness. good overall advice too.
