Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys, this is my first post. Thought i might as well make it an army list. I havent finished the second monolith for this army yet, but i quite like the idea of it. Not quite sure about the usual format when postin lists, but ill try to make it decipherable.
1 Lord w/ Res Orb, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Gaze of Flame
1 Lord w/ Res Orb, Veil of Darkness
2 Monoliths w/ Uber Leet Paint Job
Total = 1500 Exactly (Gotta love it when an army comes together perfectly)
I think i like this army simply for its simplicity. I usually play for fun, almost never just out to win. Usually play Tau (60% of the time). However, i would like sum advice on how to beat marines (mainly terminators).
Nothin much. Use the VoD Lord to pop up here and there and take out anything that was dumb enough to leave their army's core. Meanwhile, stick the 15 necrons out in the middle of my deployment zone, flanked by two monoliths, one of them continually resurrecting any of the necrons that died from the middle, and one of them blowing big holes in my opponents front line whilst moving forward very slowly *Insert Darth Vader Theme here*.
Umm... well, i got 15 in the middle cos i read sumwhere that due to passenger rules, etc, u can only re-roll a squad with a max. of 15 models (Confirmation anyone?). 20 Necrons for the VoD lord to decrease chances of random enemy models living from the squad that i pick on and ensure that the squad gets WBB. I gave the other lord his wargear as his main purpose is just to suvive, and hold onto that little ball that can basically mean life-or-death for my men.
1st off - Lords are one of our worst choices, and you've taken two. Drop one, probably the VOD one as two monoliths can babysit the warrior squads fine and drop the other down to a basic lord with orb - 260 points saved.
I haven't tried the large warrior squads, I normally go with 10 man squads, so I'll leave that up to you. About the 20 squad though - if you try and deep stike them with VOD, they can only rapid fire, and this never works. The range is just too short, as in order for you to fire with the whole squad, you'll have to be so close you're in huge danger of losing the entire squad due to assault, shooting or deepstrike mishap.
One thing this lacks is long range firepower. I would suggest dropping some warriors, and with the points from the lords, get 2 squads of 3 Destroyers. They're easily the best unit we have, and 6 can do quite well, especially when overlooked because of 2 Monoliths on the table.
Hope this helps
Lords are not the worst choice, considering that your other HQ choice of 300+ points a lord will do fine since a Lord is mainly support unit anyway. that said you only really need 1. If you go with VoD Lord you should use him with warriors, Immortals are better since they are tougher, stronger and have longer ranged fire power so that they can stay away from assualts better
Large warrior squads are not very good, mainly because of close combat. Since Necrons have such a low Inititive they are eaily sweept up and are completly gone, so lose large units of 20 warrirors instead of just losing 10 or so. also by concentrating warriors the enemy won't have to divide up shots to attack your necrons meaning more wounds to be taken.
Also you really should have destroyers. They're one of the necrons' best unit since they have great speed, range and fire power making them great for most everything
Alright, here we go, my first army edit.
Apparently two lords in one army isnt such a good idea, and niether is large numbers of necrons. So here it is:
1 Lord w/ Res Orb, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Gaze of Flame - 200
13 Necrons - 234
14 Necrons - 234
14 Necrons - 234
2 Heavy Destroyers - 130 (Newly Assembled)
3 Heavy Destroyers - 195 (Newly Assembled)
1 Monolith - 235
Aim: To stand back and shoot whatever comes within firing range.
Ill probably be versing my space marine friend who uses something like this:
1 Chapter Master w/ Unknown Stuff (he has 2+ save, 5+ invo and ?Relic Sword?)
1 Sergant Talion? (He is Scout commander w/ 6 BS)
1 Dreadnought w/ Twin linked lascannon + Missile launcher
1 Predator w/ 3 Lascannons (1 twin linked)
1 Scout squad w/ four guys maybe
6 Assault marines
And a bunch of marines
Along with 10 TERMINATORS
I dont know about other necron players, but i simply cannot kill terminators >
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated
I would still break the warrior squads down to 10. Even at 10 they're a hassle to move around. It sometimes makes it hard to use cover when you're facing a few battle cannons or a vindicator and the like.
