Retinue: 2 Tyrant Guard
Retinue: 6 Genestealers
6x 8 Hormagaunts
3x 4 Tyranid Warriors
Psychic Scream 1981 Pts
Basic idea is Hormagaunts soak up fire, hopefully some will make it into combat with a 12" assault range. Warriors join in with assult and provide synapse for hormagaunts. This should be enough to force the enemy to split his fire across the battlefield and not focus it on one area.Whilst that is happening the 2 carnifexes are softening up any tough units from the back with stranglers and venom cannons. Then, the broodlord is kept in reserve for an outflank manover, forcing opponent to be careful on advance and not stretch his troops too far for fear of broodlord and stealers ripping a flank to shreads. Last but not least, Tyrant and Zoanthropes, effectivly forming one unit, either to take out any annoying tanks or hard as nails characters OR to deploy a possable 5 blast markers on any squars that think they can have a piece. Thats the battle plan anyway. What you think???
I really like this list for some reason, very cool with the BS and DS on the Tyrant. How can you not love a Psychic Choir build?
That Fex has a lot of points on him, and he will hardly ever really need those defensive upgrades as he is going to be safely far back the whole game, I don't think I have ever lost my Sniperfex due to lack of defense. I would spend those points on more Hormagaunts, because those guys are the only thing you have to capture objectives, which is what wins most games (2/3 times you will get a capturing scenario, which makes troops extremely important).
Try moving some points around so you can fit Leaping on those Warriors, it makes a world of difference on them moving to Assault, and CC Warriors should hardly ever leave the hive without it.
I ended up playing a kill points game against chaos marines. I lost. Mainly due to bad luck i think. And the fact that there was a squad of about 15 terminators and a lord and a sorcerer flinging bullets and flamers all over my poor gaunts. I also failed to roll any good dice in close combat with my warriors. I think leaping is a defanite choice for them guys. I also sucked a lot when a squad of marines in a rhino outflanked right next to my fexes and blitzed them with plasma guns. AP2 makes me sad.
So, i guess i could do away with some fex points to get leaping, and maybe a few more gaunts. The hive tyrant and zoanthropes worked fine, but again, i rolled rubbish dice for the most part.
This list seriously lacks swarm capability and that's what Tyranids do best and, most of the time, how they win battles, I would drop those Warriors down to 2 squads of 3 and take more Hormaugants.
On a side note, how did the Psychic choir work out? I want to try one, but am hesitant to invest money, time, and points into Zoanthorpes.

Counterwavecounter, the Psychic Choir as it's called, didn't know it had a name, I call it Creeping Scream, utilises the Psychic scream -1 Ld (that Stacks) forcing units to take Ld tests and either flee or get caught by High Initiative Close combat beasts. I wrote a tactica in the unfinished tactica section Link.
As for your list Moonhead. I like it. I run a very similar list myself. your warriors though are a little slow to be charging with your hormagaunts, like Tarnag said if you can free up some points I'd give them leaping.
I also agree on the Bonded exoskeleton and Extended carapace on the Carnifex. And finally I again market my Creeping Scream tactica to you. I want people to have a read and give their opinion.
Hope that helps
Personally I would advise dropping the bonded exoskeletons on the carnifexs as T6 normally suffices, and since their shooty ones you could probably drop the other defense upgrades too. If you were to make the warriors into two 5 man squads then you could afford to give them leaping, and I wold advise giving your hormagaunts atleast some upgrades and in a smaller number larger squads, I would advise spinegaunts to hold up his scary troops and hold objectives, I have never used a psychic choir and probably will never as my army is very assault based which means that if I can inflict severe amounts of damage in a combat they end up with a -4 or greater ld mod anyway, but I woulkd advise giving the tyrant 2xtl devourers as they're accurate and would average around 3 and a bit kills per chaos squad so it might be easier to force them to take a morale check, all that is just theoretical though, as I haven't tested any of it.
