Welcome to Librarium Online!
Here is the deal, I am working on a 1500 point list to take to a tournament that is taking place near my house. This will be the first time I have taken tau to a tournament, and I am looking for advice. Please note: I cannot field a completely mechanized force, but I can come close and. The kicker is I can also come up with two 250 point lists, and before each round I can choose which 250 point list to use even thought the 1500 point list gets used every time. Any suggestions on what to use in the 1500 point list and what to use in the 250 point lists.
2 commander suits
1 full pathfinder team, also have the option for rail rifles,
36 fully built fire warriors some more in the process
24 kroot hounds
6 stealth suits
more drones than I know what to do with of all types

so, let me try to get the rules straight. You are essentially playing in a 1750 tournament, in which 1500 of the points are always the same and 250 is decided on before each match?
How much of your opponent do you get to know before deciding on your 250? I figure you'll know which army he's playing, but will you get to see his main list before choosing your module?
Must the 250 be fully individual units? My main example would be if you use two squads of 10 Kroot in the list, can you keep the 24 hounds in one of your 250 mods to turn them all assaulty by adding 12 to each?
Can the 250 module contain upgrades to current units? Things like "I'll change some Pathfinders to railguns" or "That Kroot is now a Shaper" or even "Add a Shaper to a group, then pay points to give them all armor (even the ones that weren't on before)?
Last question, must the 250 still follow Force Organization when combined with your main list? (ex. main list has 3 Hammerheads, can one of the 250s have a trio of Broadsides?)
The answers to these questions will dramatically affect the lists you get, at least they will from me. A question about the Bits you have, do you have the parts to turn the Hammerhead into a Sky Ray? I'm also going to assume that the suits are either not glued yet or magnetized, and write accordingly.
I fight for the Greater Good. Too bad for you it's MY Greater Good.
Snow Forces of T'olku W/L/D : 3-4-2... I like to think I'm learning, though.
I get to see his main list before I choose which 250 point addon to take.
My current understanding is that I can do anything I want with the points from buying armor and a shaper for the kroot to adding more members. The only exception being that it must still follow the force organization chart.
Also no I do not have the ability to convert my hammerhead to a sky ray, it is one of the things I am working on but lets assume that I do not get it done in time for the tournament. and as far as the suits go they are magnetized.
