Welcome to Librarium Online!
This is something new. I've been less and less enthused about the performance of my jetbikes in recent games. They just don't seem to do much. The shuriken cannons are nice, but the rest of the squad just seems lacking. So, I'm trying to come up with something different.
Farseer with Guide - 75
5 Pathfinders - 120
5 Pathfinders - 120
10 Dire Avengers, Exarch with dual Shuricats, Bladestorm 152
5 Fire Dragons - 80
Wave Serpent with Spirit Stones, Star Engines and Shuriken Cannons - 125
3 War Walkers with Scatter Lasers - 180
2 War Walkers with EMLs - 140
The only part I'm not thoroughly convinced with is the Dragon Wagon. It may be a bit much in this size of game. It's mostly there for reaching out and taking down the problematic tanks and heavy infantry ASAP while the rest of my forces work on the rest. The Wave Serpent can also come and get the Avengers once the Dragons have been dropped off. The Farseer with Guide the Walkers as needed, and the Avengers will act as the offensive objective grabbing force.
The other thing is Bladstorm vs Defend. If I had the model, I might go with an exarch with Power Weapon and shield, but I don't at the moment. Defend is tempting if the Avengers will be running for a good chunk of the game.
I would definantly keep the fire dragons, i usually always take a squad of fire dragons, even in 1000 pt games because they can shred almost any tank (except the monolith) and can deal with heavy infantry like terminators.
As for the power sword/SS and defend, i wouldnt take them in a thousand pt game, in a larger game though, consider maxing them out, everytime ive taken those upgrades they've saved my dire avengers and held up other units numerous times.
Consider downgrading the pathfinders to rangers. My experience with rangers is that they often are ignored by most lists, and are still vulnerable to cover ignoring guns and close combat since they only have a low armour save like guardians. A 3+ cover save is still nice and it saves you a good chunk of pts. In a higher pt game though i would make the pathfinders.
I know this isnt as fluffy, but maybe take out those 2 warwalkers with emls, downgrade pathfinders to rangers, take another squad of avengers with your current setup, and try and fit doom and spirit stones with your farseer. The farseer is risky as the chance of failing your psychic check and taking a wound increases, but this will greatly help out you dire avengers. This makes you less anti tank, but remember you still have one of the best tank busting unit in the game with fire dragons
I only own one squad of Avengers at the moment, but another squad is in the plan for future expansion.
As for the Pathfinders, I think I am going to try them as just rangers and go with a squad of 6 for objective squatting and a squad of 5 to act as a distraction.
The original plan for the Farseer was to sit back with the Walkers and guide them, so no Doom was needed. If I decide to march the Farseer with the Avengers, then I would definitely swap Guide for Doom. I will go with Stones and both in higher point games, but at 1000 points, I don't know if it's worth it.
yeah, i guess its probably better to keep the seer cheap in 1000 pt game
Hi, cool list idea... I have always wanted to do and Alaitoc list but that second ranger squad still eludes me.
On to your list... I would keep your WW with EML's with the Wave Serpent being your only tank on the field it is gonna stick out like a sore thumb. All of your opponents AT weps. will be shooting at it, especially with the fire dragon payload. The two EML WW are just extra insurance if your Wave Serpent gets shot down and your dragons are forced to walk.
You dont really have to worry about a perils test as the Farseer is the most resilient psycker in the game to it. With both the ghost helm and your invul. save and the fact it no longer instant kills you should be fine.
One other comment about the Wave Serpent, as it is the only tank in your list it might benefit more from Vectored Engines that Star Engines... this will add to its survivability.
One thing you mentioned about Defend vs. Bladestorm...Something many people tend to miss.... Defend ONLY works in Close Combat, this does not apply to your opponents shooting. The other thing is Bladstorm vs Defend. If I had the model, I might go with an exarch with Power Weapon and shield, but I don't at the moment. Defend is tempting if the Avengers will be running for a good chunk of the game.
I would say keep the pathfinders... there are two reasons for this, one it is fluffy, two they get the scout rule. This can help you get those objectives that aren't in your deployment zone.
Hope this helps,
Do I know you?!?!?!?!?
