Welcome to Librarium Online!
For a small campaign that we're gonna be starting soon.
Given 750 points to start with I chose the following
Lord + destroyer body
12 x Necron warriors
11 x Necron Warriors
4 x Destroyers.
I chose this because it gives me a large number of troops to avoid the WBB weakness and the 4 destroyers because they are well armed, tough and manouverable. I would appreciate any points, positive or negative about this army.
Hey sharlin648, welcome to Librarium Online.
And welcome to the Necrons.
You've got a great start with that list. Unfortunately, and this is a common mistake, you posted it in the wrong section, look up the page for the "Necron Army Lists" subforum.
Necrons of course have the drawback of variety in small games. You made due with what you had. Personally though I'd make a couple changes. Somehow getting a ressurection orb into that force is important, your opponents will be able to field a handful of weapons capable of taking out our WBB potential. My suggestion is to drop a pair of warriors and pick up the res orb, or drop just one warrior and your destroyer body from the lord. Either way is fine, and Destroyer lords are fast tough and hard hitting, but more often than not Lords just end up as escorts for your warrior squads after all.
With the resources at your disposal. I'm going to reinforce the "drop two warriors" route. Having that lord capable of withstanding more damage, as well as the speed boost, gives you some much needed mobile stopping power. I'd almost go so far as to say give the Lord a warscythe as well, but that's up to you you shouldn't NEED it in most games.
With so few units you CANNOT be shy about getting up in your opponent's face and telling them what-for with your gauss flayers. Keep your entire army together as much as you can, destroyers can sit closer to the back of your formation, or hit the flanks, just keep them out of firing lanes that you aren't yourself creating. Be weary of heavy assult units, these are your first targets. If you end up in charge range and don't think you can gun the enemy down, charge in to take their bonus charge attacks away. (please don't do this against CC monsters though)
And your lord can go mix it up with a staggering number of opponents with T6 and the res orb, don't get stuck in anything you can't handle, but a squad of marines will very likely get torn up. Keep your lord close enough to grant res orb coverage to all of your squads until major threats to WBB are gone.
*thinks* well that's all I got for now. Good luck!
(oh btw what armies do you play against? how long you been playing? etc..)
Is pritty much the whole gammut of races the game has to offer apart from Vanilla Marines. Tau, Eldar (normal and Dark), Nids, Chaos Marines (no demons thankfully), Imperial Guard and I belive Black Templars.
I've been playing since 2nd edition and have fond memories of the close combat phase lasting aaaages as well as getting Kharn the Betrayer to kill a significant portion of his own army thanks to his betrayer rule and a Apothicary with a Jetpack. I have not played the latest version but apart from some new rules (ramming etc) its pritty much the same. I've played as Tau, Nids and Necrons in 40k and Chaos since Hero-hammer.
I too was being tempted by the Orb and dropping a few necrons sounds like a good idea to get that and thank you for the welcome!
