So i've played 2 battles borrowing my friends necrons, (said they'd be good coz they get back up, then murder'd me with CSM and orkz in CC).
I have just brought my second lot of eldar and what to start using this, brought the battle force last month and now some interesting looking units after reading through the codex.
1 War Walker
1 Wave Serpent
10 Guardian w Weapon Platform
I got the HB for close combat ( my friend has some more i can use to bulk up the squad if need be). I went for the Hawks as i thought none of my army seem to be that great against the marines in CC but they try hit and run tactics and take on vehicles as well. The Scorpions i thought i could use like the evil marine scout squad that routinely messes me up.
I'll be playing in 2400 pt games thats split into 3 armies of 800pts on each side. Im usaully up against SM (assualt rhinos and termmies) CSM (loads a deamonspawn) and sometimes an ork army (loads thing period) and will be teaming up with Eldar.
I have a couple of lists but im a newbie so no idea really. I could get maybe one more box this month (around £25) if you reckon i'd need it. Also if you could think of other units that i may want to consider buying the end of next month that would help too.
2 * 8 DA (exarch one with shimmershield, one with bladestorm)
Farseer + doom
10 SS (exarch biting blade) shadowstrike (hopeful game winner)
6 SH (exarch sunrifle intercept skyleap) (tank hunters)
Wraithlord w wraithsword (bullet magnet)
or if objective keep the DA's hiding
2* 5DA (exarch with shimmershields)
Farseer + doom
10 HB ( mirrorswords war shout) (to tie up whoever)
10 SH ( exarch sunrifle intercept skyleap) (tank humter)
wraithlord w wraithsword (bullet magnet)
798 pts again.
Please be as ruthless in your critique as you like. I just wanna see some marines fall!

Out of those two lists I'd suggest the first one, you have more troops and some quickness/infiltrate capability.
One question, is your wraithlord already assembled? If not, I'd suggest you take him with a missile launcher and bright lance and form your army like this:
Farseer - Guide
10 DA, exarch with bladestorm, mounted in waveserpent with missile launcher.
10 guardians with missile launcher (if you had a warlock that would be good too)
10 SS, exarch with claw and shadowstrike
Wraithlord with missile launcher, bright lance.
With this list (which I believe is around 800, im sure you could tweak it to fit) you could sit your farseer back with your guardians and wraithlord and guide either. Your scorpions would infiltrate near their objective and your avengers in waveserpent would get there as fast as possible for support.
The problem with your first two lists is you have a lot of troops out in the open, which means that they'll get pounded for at least a couple of turns by space marine shooting and probably be only marginally effective once they reach your enemies lines. I don't think swooping hawks can hold their own against marines is close combat and are not really effective at shooting them either with their S3 weapons. Howling Banshees are REALLY good against marines up close, but if your opponent has half a brain he'll try to kill them before they reach him. One idea could be to put banshees in a waveserpent, but then you're short on troops so I don't think it would be a good idea.
If you play against marines alot you might want to consider putting star cannons on your transport and in your guardian squads as well. Scatter Lasers work well as well.
