    400 point tourney! please offer advice...

    So i dug out some old codex's last night nad fancied having a go at a 40K tourney, and thought that i would build a tau army from the ground up, a bit like the tales of the 4 gamers...cept there is only one of me..

    Please look and feel free to offer advice.

    VX8 Crisis - 73
    Twin linked Missile Pod
    Targeting Array
    HW drone controller
    Shield drone

    I paid the + 5 to make him have access to the armory.

    !0 x Firewarriors - 100

    10 X Kroot
    1 x Hound - 76

    Piranha - 70
    Fusion Blaster
    Target array

    Sniper drone team - 80

    Total 399.

    Thanks.

    This isn't bad. The TWMP is a great weapon system for striking from a distance. Something you could consider though is dropping the Shield Drone. In this kind of low point game, there won't be many enemies that can instant kill a crisis suit, making the extra save superfluous. It gives you a few extra points to put into other units.

    !0 x Firewarriors - 100

    10 X Kroot
    1 x Hound - 76
    Nothing wrong with these fire warriors. Although you might consider making one of them a Shas'ui team leader and give him a bonding knife. In a low points game like this, being able to regroup in bad situations can save the day.

    The kroot however, need a little work. If you are going to take Kroot hounds, one isn't going to help all that much. Taking four to six in a game this size would be more effective, but you could also just drop the one hound and put the six points someplace else.

    Piranha - 70
    Fusion Blaster
    Target array

    Sniper drone team - 80
    First, on the Piranha. I am not a fan of these guys in low point games. Although you get a fast vehicle, you could get more firepower for the points.
    rikimaru has a great post on all the tau vehicles. The piranha is covered first.

    The sniper drone team can be quite effective, but again, in a small game like this, you could get more mobile firepower for the points.
    If you dropped the Piranha and the Sniper Drone team, you could add three more Deathrain crisis suits for four points less. If you add one the current unit you have, and drop that shield drone, you have plenty of points to have another identical team of Deathrains. With the extra points you can also get three more Kroot hounds, giving you a more effective unit.

    The modifications would look like this.

    XV8 Team::: 101 points
    Shas'ui Leader
    Twin-linked Missile Pods
    Targeting Array
    Shas'ui
    Twin-linked Missile Pods

    XV8 Team::: 101 points
    Shas'ui Leader
    Twin-linked Missile Pods
    Targeting Array
    Shas'ui
    Twin-linked Missile Pods

    10 Fire warriors::: 100 points

    10 Kroot with 4 Kroot Hounds::: 94 points

    Total Points::: 396

    This list gives you several more strength eight shot per turn at greater range, and with a better chance to hit. The JSJ ability of the crisis suits will also be good for splitting enemy fire, letting your Fire Warriors and Kroot take objectives easier.
    This is only a suggestion, and not the only list you could take. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the comments..

    Just wondering, would an addition of a burst cannon be any good or not?

    Cheers

    If you are facing a more horde oriented army, you could replace a team of Deathrains with a team of three stealth suits and upgrade a fire warrior to a leader with a bonding knife. This option gives you three burst cannons and lets your fire wariors regroup. It shifts the killing power from MEQ to GEQ, by giving you nine STR 5 shots instead of four STR 8.

    Oh, oops. The the non-leader Deathrains also have Targeting Arrays. Need to fill that third hard point.

    you got a few points off here. if you have team leaders with the crisis teams they cost 111 points, not 101. plus even without the leader its 106 so this army would really be 416 points. heres this list i would do for 400.

    XV8 Team - 106 points
    Shas'ui x2
    Twin-linked Missile Pods
    Targeting Array

    XV8 Team - 124 points
    Shas'ui x2
    Missile Pod, plasma rifle
    multitracker

    10 Fire warriors - 100 points

    10 Kroot - 70 points

    total 400 points. this way you have a little meq should you need it.
