I'm looking to make an Eldar army, with a view to fighting space marines. I already know that my opponents like using a dedicated melee squad, lots of plasmas, and for one player; sniper-scouts.
So I developed this;
1 Farseer = 133 pts.
- Farseer has singing spear
- Farseer has doom + guide + spiritstones
1 guardian storm squad + warlock = 135
- 10 guardians
- warlock possesses enhance + SS
2* dire avenger squad = 232
- 6 Dire avengers
- 1 DA exarch
- Exarch possesses double/catapult + bladestorm
grand total = 500pts, 36 models
Enemies are dark angels and "blood ravens".
My general tactic is basicly tie up his tactical squads with the melee units, using their flamers and warlock to maximise the 1st-turn damage, taking into account Eldars higher initiative values.
I would keep a solid baseline of dire avengers, farseer within 6" of each squad (however that will work) and basicly just abuse their higher range to kill any problematic heavy weapons/HQ teams, using doom on enemy HQ units and then casting guide on one of the dire avenger squads, whichever is most advantageous at the time.
I know that at least within my opponents 1000pt armies (which is what I first saw them using ((against each other.. surprise surprise)) at my local GW) they prefer infantry heavy armies, comprised of devestators and tacticals. Plasma heavy, no jump troops. Both SM HQ squads were primarily melee units, with the DA force having some special character.

I guess my list is OK then?
I know people like Exarcs. But especially when you don't have full squads I think you're better off with more bodies instead of Exarcs.
i.e. for the costs of your DA exarcs you can get almost 4 regular DA. With those guys you nearly fire off as many shots every turn as the smaller squads bladestorming, and they'll hold up better to enemy fire.
If your going to be up against Marines all the time, a Wraithlord is devastating in 500 pt games but if you fear Wraithsight keep em close to your Farseer. Also, i advise some more mobile troops to make his Marines look stupid o.O perhaps 6 Jetbikes with 2 Cannons. These are nice for last turn objective grabbing and also have some ranged power to be effective and still out of distance from assaults.
I do not however, recommend using Storm Guardians, they are certainly not Marine killers! =P
Avengers are best against Marines when they are full in numbers. Even then the 3+ armor is still hard to get around so making use of their range and trying to pull them through cover to slow them down would be a good option.
I hope that helps. Good luck!
As all men must thank the progenitors, so we must endure the present that those who come after may continue the greater work.
