hey this is my first tau 1500 point army, im trying to have a balanced approach to the army and hopefully have the balance right between model count, anti tank, tanks, infantry and anti infantry
Shaso with Missle Pod, Plasma Rifle, Positional Relay, Shield Generator, Hardwired Multitracker, Hardwired Target Lock and Stimulant Injector - 162
Crisis Battle Suit Bodyguard team:
Bodyguard 1 - Plasma Rifle, Missle Pod, Targeting Array, Hardwired Target Lock and Hardwired Multitracker - 87
Bodyguard 2 - Fusion Blaster, Missle Pod, Targeting Array, Hardwired Target Lock and Hardwired Multitracker - 79
6 Stealth Team Members - 180
20 Kroot Carnivors (6+ saves) with a Shaper- 181
2 x 11 Firewarriors with Shasui's and Bonding Knives - 250
2 x Hammerheads with Railguns, Disruption Pods, Decoy Launchers, Multi Tracker and Target Lock armed with 2 Burst Cannons - 350
3 Broadside Battlesuits - 210
Total - 1499
Please tear it apart x
Well the first thing that stands out to me, is that you have both Positional Relay and a Shield Gen. As far as i know you can't have both. Secondly why place a Target Lock on a HammerHead?
ok well i can mod that by having 2 shield drones instead of the sheild gen, keep the pos relay and take the bonding knives off to cover the cost, what dya think?
As for the build! well
Why have you taken a Shas,O, the extra stats you get for the point are pretty much useless +1 to BS can be obtained by taking a Targeting array on a Shas'El, +1 WS is absolutely useless because you commander should NEVER be in close combat NEVER
+1 to initiative, well that takes the INT to a mighty 3 which still means the Shas'O goes behind just about everyone else in an assault.
+1 attack which again is pretty much pointless because again you should NEVER be in a position to use it.
+1 to LD's, well LDS 9 for the Shas'El is hardly bad and will get you through most things.
Your HQ costs 162pts that is way way way to much. Stims are Ok but to be quite honest they are not needed if you use cover and the XV8's mobility.
Take a Shas'El with Missile Pod, Plasma, Targeting array and Multi for 97pts and that is all you need. It is all very well taking expensive HQ but it just drains points from the rest of the list and for very little gain. Take the El and save 63pts to spend elsehwere.
You have one unit of XV8's and even though they have Target locks it really limits their usefulness. You have two spare elites slots and you should be using these. If you only have the two XV8's then take an XV8 in each elites slot. I would go for two Fire-knives:
Team leader with Plasma, Missile pod, Targeting array and HW multi 77pts. This gives you the flexibility to target three units a turn and also means the opponent has to deal with three separate units. They are also immune to 25% casualty tests and are a lot easier to keep alive because you can hide them easily.
What you should be doing is taking two units of 10 Kroot. Smaller units are a lot easier to infiltrate and also a lot easier to get into cover, Kroot need cover to survive and a 20 Kroot unit is nigh on impossible to hide so all you are doing is taking a large target for the opponent. I have linked my article on how to use Kroot here for you >http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...t-tactica.html
The Fire Warriors are fine but the only problem you have is a lack of Devilfish. Fire Warriors are very vulnerable. You should be aiming to get one unit in a Devilfish. You have 63pts from the HQ so lets find the rest of the points.
So we have found 20pts to add to the 63pts, take 10pts from the points left over from the Kroot and you have a Devilfish
The Broadsides are illegal, you have three and have paid 210pts, that's 70pts each. Check the codex and you will see that you just take a support system so you can never pay 70pts for an XV88. Right luckily for you we have the 30 points left from the Kroot unit changes. You need advanced stabalisation systems, this will make sure that the Xv88's can get line of sight and also shoot if they are retreating. So with the changes we would have.
Plasma, MP, TA and HW Multi 97pts
2 X Fire-knives (1 in each elite slot)
Plasma, MP, TA and HW multi 154pts
6 X Stealth's 180pts
2 x 10 kroot 140pts
2 X 11 Fire Warriors, 1 x Ui upgrade and Bonding knives 250pts
Devil fish with Disruption pod and Multi 95pts
2 x Hammerheads, Burst cannons, Railgun, decoys and Multi 330pts
3 x XV88's with A'S'S, team leader and HW target lock 250pts
You have a protected Fire Warrior squad. 3 XV8's that can target three units or gang up on one target. 2 Kroot units that are easier to hide, easier to infiltrate and are more effective than one large unit. You have mobile XV88's that can know target two units a turn. Effective but cheaper Hammerheads and a HQ that is not double the price it should be.
The list has a bigger unit count which means the opponent has to work harder to reduce the effectiveness of the list and has to split fire.
Most importantly of all the list id legal.
If you do not have the Devil fish model I would recommend investing in one (two if you can affords it), they will make the army viable (I honestly do not think that Fire Warriors are not a viable choice in 5th lists).
I hope that helps at least give you some ideas.
well i tried my list out and yeah it won but I think some things were O.T.T, so I took your advice into consideration and modified, and came up with this :
Shas'O with Missle Pod, Plasma Rifle, Positional Relay, 2 shield drones, Hardwired: Target Lock, Multitracker and drone controller, Stimulant Injector - 172
2 Crisis Battlesuits (act as retinue) - Missle Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Targetting Array, Hardwired Multitracker and Target Lock - 154
2x 2 Crisis Battlesuits with Missle Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Targetting Array, Hardwired Multitracker and Target Lock -308
3 Stealth Suits - 90
3x 8 Firewarriors with Shasui's with Markerlights - 300
12x Kroot Carnivores and 6 Kroot Hounds - 120
Hammerhead with Railgun, Multitracker, Decoy Launchers, Disruption Pods, Target Lock and 2 Burst Cannons - 175
2x Broadsides with Multitrackers and Shasvre with Hardwired Drone Controller and 2x Shield Drones - 180
Total - 1499
So what dya think? I think its a bit more balanced than having a list made to take out 2 armoured companies, but yeah im thinkin maybe of replacin 2 plasma rifles with a couple of fusion blasters for extra anti tank purposes possibly, not sure, what dya think? is it possible if you could tear it apart maybe?>
Thanks for all the help so far
I say more MP, Transports, and RH's.So what dya think? Have you ever used a DR or a TADR for that matter? If you haven't I say give a team of 3x TADR's a try and see how they do, you wont be disappointed.
If you can squeeze the points in grab some transports so your FW's can reach the objective, but make sure you upgrade them with SMS otherwise the drones might give extra VP's away.
Lastly, Broadsides are an excellent unit, but at this point level I think you will be better rewarded with RH's, but some dislike fielding 3 due to there conscience lol.
No marker lights?
I am indeed liking the whole hammerhead instead of broadside view, i may well do that, but might I ask what a DR or TADR is? and yeah i have markerlights in the FW squads
thanks for the input guys
A DR or TADR is a Crisis Suit with Twin Linked Missile Pods and X choice of battle gear upgrade, but the Target Array is usually the #1 pick next to the flamer. TLMP's w/ BS4 really brings the pain. In my old 4th ed list I used to field 15x TADR's raining hell onto the enemy. TADR's are just plain mean and a great choice for 5th Ed. other than the Fire Storm, so give them a try and see if you don't get hooked.
Hey so yeah I tried the TADR and kinda found that termnators can pawn me to easily without the AP2-ness of the plasmarifle, so i might stick with that, but other than that I have some ideas fermented possibly about the list, whcih is basically have the list recently posted above but replaces the broadsides with another hammerhead? what do you guys think?
thanks for the input so far guys
