Thanks in advance
That's looks like a pretty fun list. What guns do you have on the wave serpents? Also, if you are going to be running the shinning spears, you might as well take a Autarch instead of an avatar, as he is about 15 points cheaper with a jetbike, lance, mandiblaster, and fusion gun, but he gets more attacks of the same strenght on the charge and has more mobility. Plus, you can stick him in a unit and effectively increase the number of wounds he has, but an avatar is just going to draw a lot of fire. Even though he's toughness six most things can still wound him on a six or better, and it doesn't take too many of those before he's out of commission and since he has to walk its gonna take him a bit before he gets where he wants to. I've only seen the avatar convert very well on lower point games.
Just my opinoin though, cause the fearless aura is really nice.
There are some good points, but I think the list is a little disjointed. The foot slogging component is a little small, so it might get blasted, of left behind.
I would suggest dropping the lone Wraithlord, as they are usually best used in groups. Use that slot to buy a Falcon for the Farseer and the Warlock. Then drop Runes of Witnessing from the Seer and get Fortune (right now with only one power, the Spirit Stones are wasted), Drop the Spiritseer addon and and add 2 more Warlocks with Destructor to fill the falcon.
Then I would drop the Avatar and the Harlequins. If you want another HQ, an Autarch with Fusion Gun and Laser Lance would fit well with the Spears. With the points from teh Harlies, add another troop. Either Avengers or Guardians in a Serpent or some Jetbikes. Jetbikes would be best because they could work with the Spiders and support them.
Lastly, the Dire Avengers should both have Bladestorm, and the Exarch should have dual catapults. 2 shots for 5 points is worth it, and defend is wasted on a mounted squad.
Lastly, the Serpents need to be armed. I don't know if you just forgot to mention it or what. I would suggest EMLs or Bright Lances on the Avenger serpents and a Shuriken Cannon on the Dragon Serpent.
Thats my 2 cents.
I'll second everything Dhali wrote. Very good points - Drop the slow stuff like WL, avatar & harlies.
However this will eliminate a lot of your assault power too, though it never made much sense to begin with - having all your assault units unmounted and the slowest of the army while the ranged are fast. Dropping the 3 mentioned units will make your council vulnerable since they arent large enough to do a lot of damage, and if they get stuck in nothing can bail them out. Fill up the council & mount or don't take one at all
There is also quite a lack of troops. 2 selections at 2k is definitely not enough especially if you have to hold multiple objectives. You could potentially have zero scoring units at a game end at this size if the opponent focus fires the DA. Consider another DA + WS combo with bladestorm & some rangers as cheap troops to stay back.
Autarch on bike is good, same with another FS in a WS with doom but an avatar would not be a good choice in a mech army.
lol i totally forgot to put the harlies in a serpent /headdesk now i gotta try work those in ...
i really want a nicely rounded mix of troops/bigwalkythings/impressivelookingvehicular stuff and seems like it should be a fun list to play with ..
as for what to drop/pickup the consensus seems to be that i should get more squads (omg thats gonna be painful to paint) but then i gotta stick em in something (serpents are obvious choice here)
which brings me to the serpents... i haddnt armed them as i just wanted them to carry people one place to the next quickly drop troops there and let the troops do the talking at those spots this gets into tactics a little and here is a quick run over of what i thought would be happening...
quick advance drop off and hold those strategic spots while the lord, avatar, and seer/lock guard plod up the middle to attract the oppositions fire. Meanwhile the spears and the spiders can help out a little bit here and there where needed and the dragons would basically hurtle straight towards the oppositions tanks/heavily armoured stuff to take care of that
the harlies were ment to be in a serpent as well adn i need to check the numbers but the idea with them was to either take a point or lay waste to a squad or too and just generally be annoying to the opposition
i like the idea of an autach on a bike tho that could be fun and the model doesnt look too bad either.
otherwise i'll sit down and have a rethink over the weekend and see what i come up with
Thanks for the help tho guys
It sounds like you are interested in a kind of mixed list. It's a promising idea, but I think you original list had a bit too much focus on the Mech portion.
Also, you have a few problems right off the bat. For one, the Wave Serpents must take some weapon. The cheapest is a Shuriken Cannon, which is usually a good choice, plus it gives the Serpent something to do once it has dropped off its cargo. Secondly, the Harlequins cannot take a Serpent as a dedicated transport. They can steal one from another squad after deployment, or use a Falcon, but neither of those are very fluffy or good choices.
If you want to stick with mixed, here is my opinion...
You're going to need to decide what heavy weapons you want. In a mixed list, Wraithlords are the better choice. So drop the Prisms and add one more Wraithlord. Then, again, get a Falcon for the Seer Council. Give both of the Wraithlords Bright Lances and EMLs. That makes them good against tanks and other heavy infantry. The Star Cannon just won't be doing enough damage.
Next, drop the Spears for a squad of Guardians with a Warlock with Spirit Seer. Give the guardians a scatter laser platform.
Use the remaining points to add bodies to the Seer Council and give the Serpents Weapons (scatter lasers or shuriken cannons are best for this list).
The general strategy would be to march up the field with the Avatar, Guradians, Lords and Harlies. Keep the avatar and lords up front to take the initial charges, and then the Harlequins can jump in and finish the fight. While this is happening , the Spiders and the Serpents should hit the weak flank and start taking the enemy out in chunks.
Hope that helps, and good luck
awww so now i see the whole "Transport" thing in the codex .... another /headdesk situation for me
yeah i kinda want a mix of things and am choosing stuff more based on looks than anything in particular... i'll have a better study over the next couple of days and see what i come up with.
thanks for the advice tho
There's quite a few "exceptions" and things that are easy to miss.
Eldar have a lot of awesome looking units, so picking things that look good will give you plenty of options
There's really one major rule when it comes to Eldar stuff, and that is that things work better in pairs. For example, two Wraithlords are better than just 1, Same with Prisms, mounted units, etc. Eldar is an army of specialists, and having some redundancy ensures that the right specialist is in the right place at the right time.
Glad I could help.
