Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ahoy all, i'm new to these forums and would greatly appreciate some help
This is the first eldar list i'm being serious about, planning on taking it to the local GW for some games, and curious about its performance.
Singing Spear, Doom
x10, exarch w/ executioner & acrobatics
Spirit Stones, EML
x10, exarch w/ dual cats & bladestorm
Spirit Stones, EML
x17, plat w/ EML, & Warlock w/ conceal
Holofeild, Spiritstone, Star Engines
= 1502 pts
The wraithlord would travel with the guardian squad to prevent wraithsight
The rangers are there to contest objectives and maybe take out some monstrous creatures
Farseer will be travelling in a WS with the DA, casting doom on squads that may be charged by the 'Shees as well
The avatar is a countercharge unit more than anything, as i have lately faced many CC-heavy armies, and dont want to be caught with my pants down
Immediately i see a fire prism with star engines. If you can't get away with 24" you let your fireprism get in waaaaaaay over its head, second the prism can move 12" and shoot, and since all it is is one big expensive shot per turn, you had better be taking that shot each turn. Personally i think that holofields on a fire prism is largely useless, but that's just me. The 60" range is the tanks best defense, not the extra upgrades.
I haven't had great luck with avatars. They tend to under perform, even though they are toughness 6, everything still has a chance to wound it. I would prefer to have a second wraithlord than an avatar which has fewer attack and a lower weapon skill but a toughness of eight which makes him very difficult to kill with out devoting a lot of resources to it.
I'm sure that plenty of people will tell you to drop the guardians and since this is your first go with em i'm inclinded to tell you the same. The guardians are a terrific tactical unit but they are notably difficult to get to work especially well. Their best use is as a tactical wall, their high numbers can be used to pin in retreating units, and force those combat tactics marines off the board, the large volume of fire that they put out is great in combination with doom and guide. I've even used guardians to kill Kharne in CC, so they are easy to under estimate. At 1500 i would seriously consider using some fire dragons as anti tank. They are remarkable reliable for killing any tank including landraiders.
Farts made some great points, wave goodbye to the guardians, they suck something awful, die too quick and kill to slow IMO. Drop the Avatar, great looking model, thats does not even come close to being as good as it should, don't be fooled by WS10, its still only 3's to hit!
I have to disagree on the Holos for prism though, i my experiences you CANNOT rely on the 60'' range, its like deploying your harlequins 12'' from the enemy and hoping that they will not rapid fire them to death, the Prism is a MAJOR target, keep it safe.
Again i agree with the dragons comment, point for point the best AT we have.
Guess I have to stand up for the guardians and say keep them, maybe play around with the exact numbers and warlock power until you find your preference but they have thier uses. I do have to say that the star engines feel out of place, if you moved them to the banshees I don't think most people would complain about them but the prism is there to fire not run around. Lastly perhaps picking up stones and fortune could help the list nicely. Fortuned avatars are a pain to kill and the rerolling cover saves on rangers makes them hard to shift. Even the guardians end up needing a very large amount of firepower dropped on them to break them if all the saves are being rerolled.
Conceal for guardian warlock= not very ok. If you cannot deploy them in cover you did something wrong. I feel that embolden is much much better for that low Ld value of the warlock
Star engine for prism i do not think is very necessary. I`d taher have fortune on the farseer and spirit stone on him. Also singing spear = not very useful but cheap nevertheless. I do not like it but maybe because my farseer is a combat one who charge with the banshees so i need the one more attack of the sword.
I`m concered that this is a hammer/anvil list but your anvil is huge and your hammer can be overwhelmed.
Avatar, pathfinders, guardians, wraithlord are you hammer. In attack you have only the avengers and shees in serpents. Dunno now i would tweak it. That depends on what are your usual opponents.
Hight elf and Craftworld Eldar army project pics heavy: linky
pretty cool list. I like the guardians only because of the size of the squad and the avatar making them fearless. Make sure you take advantage of that. I like conceal, makes them more mobile with the avatar.
Banshee squad is really big, maybe 6 or 7. They are really hard to use in my opinion, most aspect warriors are hard to use beyond killing one squad.
I too think the prism has too many upgrades. If you take off the stones, star engines, and a couple banshees, you may be able to afford something new in your point costs that will serve you better. 1 prism in a list shouldn't be so many points it's too easy to take down and it's just a pot shot anyway, what do you need it that mobile for?
