Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys, I ran the following 1000 point list against my brother and a friend this weekend (shooty DA's and SOB respectively) and got pretty much destroyed both times. Both games were annihilation. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to change the list slightly, as these are mostly the only models I have.
Farseer - Fortune, Singing Spear (goes with dragons)
10 Firedragons in Serpent with EML, SC, SS
10 DA's, Exarch with 2 ASC, Bladestorm in Serpent with BL, SC, SS
10 Guardians with BL platform
8 Warp Spiders, Exarch with 2 DS, PB
The main problem I was having was busting tanks, the SOB army especially as it had 4 tanks in it. Looking at the list it seems like it has enough anti-tank, but I've been having trouble keeping the dragons alive after they bust a tank, as the tanks are usually close to some troop unit, and any troops can own dragons in close combat. Oh, and my BL tank always seems to be blown up turn 1...
Anyways, any comments would be appreciated.
Less upgrades on serpents, less dragons. Switch the bright lance on the guardians with a scatter or a starcannon or a missile launcher. less spiders
with the points take some banshees in a serpent , switch the fortune with doom or take the doom also, run the farseer with the banshees.
or take scorps with infiltrate
or if you want more shooty take dark reapers with tempest launcher. those kill marines or sister of battle
if you fear your scoring units and play with a little cover you can take rangers or pathfinders.
or just take the upgrades off, take the brightlance offf and put something cheaper and split the 10 dragons in 2 squads and take another serpent.
If your serpent always die in first turn you do something wrong. turboboost for some cover, deploy in cover, you have a lot of options. and remember the energy field rule....there is no weapons that have more than 33% to pen a serpent from front or sides.
To be fair the SoB probably have the single best eldar tank popping unit in the game with the exorcist, that many high str shots is deadly to us. I do agree with the suggestion of giving your farseer doom, don't see alot of units that fortune would help alot but doom could help pile up the wounds from your guardians or DAs. If your dragons are always dieing either find away to support them when they go tank hunting or trim down the number so you loose less in the end, 6 or so dragons will still generally wreck any tank they shoot at. If you can scare up the points perhaps an autarch with WJG, mandiblasters, powerweapon, and a fusion gun would work for you. Would give you another AT weapon and give your spiders a bit more bite in melee. As for your tanks dieing all I can say is it happens. Your list only gives enemy AT two targets, if they have loaded up on them you can expect your tanks to take a beating.
I don't want to burst your bubble dude man, but you should get some more stuff, at least a little bit. In my opinion your list is not competitive.
drop dragons to 6, drop spiders to 6 or altogether, take upgrades off the serpents. get 5 reapers with exarch and crack shot. that's only one (real life) squad purchase for you. proxy a lance for the serpents and proxy a (cheaper) multi shot weapon for the guardians. oh yeah use doom. reapers have such good range whatever unit you doom is just screwed.
6 Dragons in serpent with BL
10 Avengers inclu exarch with goodies in serpent with BL
Guardians w/ scatter laser
6 spiders, inclu exarch with goodies
5 delicious, delicious reapers with crack shot
You'll have two twin linked lances, 6 melta shots and a singing spear for vehicles
you'll have 10 guardians with scatter laser, bladestorm avengers, doom, and reapers for anti marine/sob personnel.
One last thing, if you can buy something else, I'd get pathfinders instead of the guardian squad. 10 without a warlock is really weak dude, i was just trying to make it work. If you got 5 pathfinders, you could tuck them back in cover with the reapers, and you'd have the core of your army be a LONG RANGE marine devastating fire base.
Yea, axing the heavy weapons on the serpents is probably a good idea, it seems like I rarely get to shoot them more than a couple times a game anyways. However, this leaves me with very little long-range AT, any suggestions on how to fix that? As for the less dragons, I like them in squads of 10 for their anti-troop potential, it makes it so theres really nothing they can't kill, so your enemy can't really run away. I'll pay 64 points for that, at least against marines and SOB.Less upgrades on serpents, less dragons.I don't know, again, I like them in bigger squads due to their ability to be a more all around threat. Plus, with 8 a couple can get shot up and they're still a threat.less spidersYea, I have nothing really to say to this, one battle my brother stole the initiative so my tank was out of cover, other battle the exorcist got 6 missiles, which somehow caused 5 pen. hits... no amount of cover will save me then. I guess im just frustrated, seems like I can never catch a break. If your serpent always die in first turn you do something wrong. turboboost for some cover, deploy in cover, you have a lot of options. and remember the energy field rule....there is no weapons that have more than 33% to pen a serpent from front or sides.I really like this suggestion, that would give my opponent something to think about for sure.If you can scare up the points perhaps an autarch with WJG, mandiblasters, powerweapon, and a fusion gun would work for you.
Thanks for your help guys!
I never have luck with one of anything in my eldar lists. If you have any skimmers in 1000 points, you really need two.
The SOB's you are facing have 4 tanks? dang!
i wonder how many troops does he have if fields 4 tanks....no troops = lose or maximum draw...here is his weakness.
Guardians need multi shot weapons. Dont even bother with a warlock, not worth the points.
10 fire dragons? you crazy. Yes they are powerful. But yes, they do die.
If you are going to upgrade anything on the serpeant is should be vectored engines.
I have never had good luck with war spiders. They sound good and decent, but when you play it doesnt seem like it ever turns out.
If i were you I would invest in path finders, dark reapers, a CC elite, dire avengers. Something along those lines, they usually can pull their weight.
I've had mostly good luck with Spiders. Just keep them out of assault with anything in Power Armour. In my mind, that is what the second jump is for. Also, you can take withdraw until you get really comfortable with them.
Warlock is ok with embolden for defender guardians so they do not run after first 3 deads in their rank. for storm guardians a enhance warlock is ussualy better. And yes the warlock worth their points.
last league game mine killed a Chaos lord with his storm guardians and then stood alone 1 turn agains 5 raptors (champion with lightning claw). He died when finnaly my slow ass moving avatar managed to charge the raptors and avenge his death.
dark reapers yeah yeah yeah
About the spiders you could be right but mine are ussualy light tanks poppers, support units for the charging ones and baits. As baits they look tasty
