Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm doing a Tale of Four Gamers-esque venture with three of my friends from my local club. The aim is to paint 500 points per month, and then have a battle with what we've done so far at the end of each month.
So the situation is this - I could be facing Marines, CSM or Orks. For Eldar in such a low-points game it's hard to be balanced.
Here is what my initial thought -
Farseer w/ Doom, Singing Spear
10 Dire Avengers w/ Exarch, TwSC, Bladestorm
Wave Serpent w/ TwLi EML, ShuriCannon, Spirit Stones
Total - 495 points
Drop the spear, tinker with your remaining pts, or save them for next time.
You could consider dropping the shuriken cannon from the wave serpeant, and then making the pathfinders rangers. Then you may have enough points to do something worthwhile. 43 pts or so, so i dont know.
Or you could just use this list, it seems fine for 500 pts to me.
Is it a mistake to take a Wave Serpent in 500 points?
I only took a Singing Spear because there's nothing worth while to take for 8 points. On the other hand, I could drop the spirit stones and take Defend for the Dire Avengers in case I end up getting in combat with the orks.
I'd say its almost essential to take a wave serpent in 500pts, if it were me I'd take a bright-lance on it, you can't afford to assume your opponent will show up with no vehicles, and a dedicated unit of fire dragons is a bit OTT at this level.
I like to bring a Vyper with EML at 500, its cheap as chips and the missile is supremely versatile to take out light vehicles or infantry. I think if you trim off the luxuries you'll be able to fit it in.
Dont drop SS. Serpeants need to be moving. even if they cannot shoot.
If you have those 43 points or so, you could add a few rangers and then maybe take some runes. If the CSM player is smart when he gets up there in points, hell be taking thousand sons for sure. They are quite aggravating. The easiest way ive found to take them down is Pathfinders, but ull be able to upgrade yours if there not pathfinders already.
