    1500 Necrons - New Player

Hi. I'm pretty much new to the 5th edition rules, as I stopped playing during 4th edition. So, I'm looking for some advice/criticism on this list I thought up looking through the new rulebook.

    HQ:
    Necron Lord = 165
    Resurrection Orb
    Lightning Field

    Troops:
    10x Necron Warriors = 180
    10x Necron Warriors = 180
    10x Necron Warriors = 180

    Elites:
    9x Immortals = 252

    Fast Attack:
    5 Destroyers = 250

    Heavy Support:
    Monolith = 235
    Tomb Spyder = 55

    Total: 1497

However, I don't know if I have enough AT seeing as the Gauss's Glancing Hits can no longer destroy vehicles.

ok so drop the tomb spyder and lightning field and get 1 more destroyer and divide them into 2 groups of 3. and add 1 more immortal to make it a 10 man. other then that your list is solid

and destroyers can pretty much go threw anything dont worry bout tanks too much

I disagree with Necrons, unfortunately with our list there are only so many good ways of playing Necrons, and we have the tendency to give advice to make them closer to the way we play.

While I would still consider dropping the lightning field- because if the phalanx escort lord is in CC, your doing something wrong in my opinion- everything else is great. Depending on how strictly you run with point limits, you have a number of options for replacing the lightning field, but the best one I can see is a 10th immortal, bringing you to 1500 exact.

As for tank killing power, it's true you might have some problems with killing them good and dead, but shakes and stuns take them out of it for a turn, which is good enough for most cases, and you'll probably get one or two of these just from warriors. Dealing with them permanently is a little more tricky, but monolith pie plates and Tomb Spyders (yay MCs) do work quite well, though probably not well enough for all tank IGs or something equivalent.

If you could explain the tactics you were thinking of, and some common enemies ect. we could help a bit better.

And welcome to 5th edition. Good luck, you might need it.

    *Disagrees further with eeeverybody!*

Having your orb lord in combat is a great boon to the squad being charged, 3 S5 power weapon attacks can potentially turn the tide of the battle, the lightening field just provides further punishment, though personally I'd go with a gaze of flame to reduce attacks instead. It's not like you lose res orb coverage, and the Lords are not easy to kill.

Your troops are strong, good start there.

I will say that more anti-tank might not be a bad idea, but as stated, glancing can USUALLY solve this problem. Also 2x3 destroyers isn't a bad thing to have, many players will learn on their own time that it works better, I always field them that way if possible.

If anything I'd attempt to fit in another tomb spyder, they're great for filling in the gaps of an army (i.e. combat + tank busting) It's tough though because more destroyers are also good...

My advice would be to drop a couple immortals (yes i know they loose some effectiveness but in your army they're midrange fire-support not the primary attackers) and get another destroyer and another tomb spyder. this will grant you far more flexibility in your force. Two CC-counter units, and two squads of destroyers (that move together but shoot seperate unless you have something really juicy to rip up.

And yes, a list of opponents and themes is always helpful.

My most common opponents will be SM and IG, thought could be anything, so I'm looking for a balanced list.

By themes, did you mean special strategies? If so, I liked the "Flying Circus" idea, but couldn't find points to fit in the VoD, and have no idea how well it works.

According to advice, I changed the list slightly:

    HQ:
    Necron Lord = 140
    Resurrection Orb

    Troops:
    10x Necron Warriors = 180
    10x Necron Warriors = 180
    10x Necron Warriors = 180

    Elites:
    8x Immortals = 224

    Fast Attack:
    3 Destroyers = 150
    3 Destroyers = 150

    Heavy Support:
    Monolith = 235
    Tomb Spyder = 55

    Total:1494

Is that better? Should I lose some more Immortals for a second Tomb Spyder?
The reason I originally put the destroyers in a squad of five is because you then need to kill twice as many to make them take a morale check. Since they flee 3D6", I figured that was important.

That's a fair enough point, however against shooting their ld10 will usually protect them.

That list looks fine, extra tombspyder is up to you personally, I just like to have two of them around.

Well I'm pretty new to 5th edition too, but I've only taken immortals once (been playing smaller games, couldn't find room) and it was actually that exact list except with less immortals for another spyder like you were thinking of taking, and very first turn, very first shot of the game was a Basilisk dropping a pie-plate right on the small immortal unit and killing every single one (and wounded the lord)....

Ever since them I'd phobic of squad wipes, and if you can only have one of the type of unit (immortals more times than not), I always try to make them as big as possible so that sort of thing never happens again (I know it will, but can't blame me for trying to minimize the chances)

Other than that, I can tell you from experience that that list works great against guardsmen
Though the two spyders were both very important in that game, and I wouldn't want to try it again without one of them (though I might drop the immortals for another 3 destroyers, those guys killed about half the IGs by themselves!
