Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey all.. I'm sure you've all seen the "I'm new to eldar, please help!" posts... and this is similar. I have been playing 40k for some time, and have only played Orks to date. I feel like having something a bit more.... shooty.
Here is a list I've put together. I've gone over the 2000 points limit I've set for myself.. and I'm looking for some criticism on where I could add/remove some things.
Anyhow - on that note.. here's what I've got:
Avatar - 155
Autarch - 115
w/ Warp Jump Generator, Power Weapon, Fusion Gun
4x Striking Scorpions - 97
+ Exarch w/ Chainsabers
4x Fire Dragons - 92
+ Exarch w/ Dragon's Breath Flamer
7x Wraithguard - 259
+ Spiritseer w/ Singing Spear and 'Conceal'
7x Dire Avengers - 128
+ Exarch w/ 2x Catapult and 'Blade storm'
18x Guardians - 169
w/ Star Cannon
18x Guardians - 169
w/ Star Cannon
4x Warp Spiders - 147
+ Exarch w/ Powerblades and Death Spinner x2
5x Swooping Hawks - 153
+ Exarch w/ Sunrifle
3x Viper - 180
1x Wraith Lord - 155
w/ Bright Lance, Missile Launcher
3x Dark Reaper - 182
+ Exarch w/ Fastshot, Missile Launcher
4x Dark Reaper - 217
+ Exarch w/ Fastshot, Missle Launcher
Sorry if my format is a bit odd. "4x Dark Reaper + Exarch" means 5 total models. Anyhow.. I'm not sure where to skim points off. I was able to bring this list down to like 2150 or so, but the other 150 points are causing me to second guess the list.
What do you think? Thanks in advance!
wow! never seen an army remotely similar to this one you have here mate. But it will defiantly pack a punch in the shooting phase, thats for sure.
Just a couple of suggestions though,
- pump up your FD and SS to 7 man squads (i'm trying to pump up my own 5 man squads as they get shot down so easily)
- cull your guardian squads a bit, two units of 14 would be better, as you'll still have bucket loads of troops to claim objectives
- maybe think about replacing the guardian starcannons, and give them a cheaper weapon, with more shots (SL or SC)
- Keep that wraithlord with what he's got, he should destroy tanks quite well
- finally, you should consider dropping either one or both exarch's from you dark reaper units. Fully fitted dark reaper exarchs, cost as much as a cheap HQ, which is crazy, considering they have only one wound
But other than that, i really don't know what to suggest in order to cull your points, maybe drop a vyper, because two are plenty IMO.
Anyhow good list mate
striking scorpions as you have them are a support squad for the wraithguard which should work, your fire dragons need some form of transport for them to be effective in vehicle hunting (almost may as well change them into the swooping hawks who could use the additional points for more models and skyleap or vica versa), definitely drop the exarches from the dark reaper squads that should save you points, and for the additional points cutting needed to hit 2000pts i'd go with dropping vypers until you make it to the points limit.
i'll say this again, it's probably better for you to write and play at 1000 points where you can pick things up but are very much limited, use your experience with a 1000pt list to then make a 1500 point list that adds variation to your 1000 point force eg a shooty unit to a combat force (from the 1000pt list); but the main point is that you need to get your theme straight and play testing at the lower brackets gives you the best position to find your playstyle.
Alright first off i will admit that my eldar experence is some what limited, but like your self I am an experenced 40k player; and at least bring that to the table. That being said, i think that a major flaw with this list, is target priority. Simply, that a smart opponent shouldnt have much problem mowing down all the walking troops, especially your slow wraithlords, and your 6 fire dragons which for the most part are your only AT. Furthermore your troop's the guradian's are a static fun line, and a fairly poor one from my experence, and your dire avenger's, while great when droped off in prime location via wave serpant will get torn appart. from the set up of this list, I am enfering, and thats what it is infering. that you presume to use this as a static force. In 5th eddition, though where 2/3 of all games involve taking holding/ and or contesting objectives this tactic is pretty out dated, especially with enemies being able to approch so fast now. Now i am not saying 3 wave serpant's with bright lances carrying bladestorming dire avengers is end all be all, but some mobility is definitely needed. Sorry if this came out negitive, as it was compleatly not my intention, just from my experence, in today's warhammer mobility and AT are paramount, and these are are's i would honestly look to strengthen.
-Best of luck, David
This is great feedback everyone! I don't mind positive or negative feedback.
However.. the list I have above, is the models I currently own. They are built the way they are listed. However, that doesn't mean I can't play a few games with models proxied (my area is cool with that).
Everyone seems to be touching on transportation for squads, and being more mobile, however, this pulls away from the heavy weapons. I can increase the size of the fire dragons, and that will help, but is that all I can do? Are Wave Serpents really necessary? I have so many ideas that I want to go with.. but I think the above mentioned is correct by recommending I play some smaller games first.
I will put together a 1000 point list when I get home from work today and post it up. We'll see how it goes!
Thanks again for all the feedback.
Well... I promised a 1000 point list to combat this goofy 2000 point list last night.. and I failed.
However.. I have it available tonight.
Here it goes:
Farseer - 83 pts
5x Fire Dragons - 92 pts
-Exarch w/ Flamer
5x Wraithguard - 175 pts
8x Dire Avengers - 108 pts
-Exarch w/ 2 SC
12x Guardian - 121 pts
11x Guardian - 113 pts
5x Warp Spiders - 122 pts
-Exarch w/ Deathspinner
5x Dark Reapers
Lemme know what you think!
Can you tell me your strategy with this army, cus i'm seeing alot of range 12 weapons, with no transport. I think you should drop your wraithguard for that a wraithlord with eml and scatter laser. But than, if you really want to take the wraithguard, maybe consider dropping the FD's
Sorry, but this army defiantly needs some tweaking.. as eldar do not survive for long if they can't attack with at least 3 units a turn.. they simply get outnumbered and slaughtered ay
