Welcome to Librarium Online!
hi this is my first for a while but here we go, my opponents fairly new to tau and 40k and is still trying to get his first win against me but i thought hed be better served trying 1k games against me as we normally play 1500-2000 just so he can learn the intricacies of what hes equipped. hes sick of the farseer i use so im being kind and not taking him this time (but not telling him) and i dont normally use the dire avengers but have gone with them this time...he plays in 1k games a large kroot squad 3-4 fire warrior teams but only one mounted, 4-5 battlesuits hammerhead and a selection of about everything else which he chops and changes. oh and we still play 4th edition cant afford new book dont know if you allow that here. right my list
w/mandiblasters,jetbike,laser lance, death spinner 135pts
TROOPS-10x dire avengers
w/exarch,diresword,bladestorm in wave serpent,VE stones TL shuri.cannon,shuri,cannon 312pts
6x guardian jetbikes 2xshuri.cannons w/warlock ,spear ,destuctor 210pts
w/BL, EML, 2xflamers 155pts
w/2xscatter laser 60pts
w/exarch, EML, fast and crack shot 157pts
This all comes to 1014 i believe but he always wants a bit extra so i dont think i ll need to trim it
Tactics, well i usually have enough destuctors and blast tempaltes to get into his huge kroot squad (30+) models which are always a pain and very nearlly won it for him a few times, hence the strange squad of 3 dark reapers, hopefully the reapers DAs and war walker can deal with them quick enough. ive just got my wraithlord glued so hes coming with me fot the first time, the bikes with warlock destuctor should get into his holed up fire warriors and the autarch is too peel off into battlesuits, i usually take two bog standered vipers with BLs to deall with his 2x hammerheads and skyray in bigger games but hopefully the wraithlord will do it for me!!
any comments suggestions welcome because personally i think i look a bit light on men maybe scrapping the reapers for more bikes and an enhance warlock to survive those numerous pulse carbine shots plus he normally deepstrikes a 2 man battlesuit team behind my lined and the reapers willl be well vulnerable as it the first list ive took which isnt cc orientated, anyway cheers and look forward to your feedback
Well, there's not much anyone can say since the Tau player is fairly new. The best thing to do IMO is to start out small. This way he can learn what his possibilities are with a limited number of units. Do a 500pt game and gradually build up to a 1000pt. Makes it easier soaking up information on what he can and can't do with the units he has, and much easier of keeping track of EVERYTHING going on for both players.
A much more experience friend of mine went against myself and another friend (our first games ever) in a 3k match that just took way too long due to constant bickering about the rules due to unfamiliarity with the vast amount of units in play and with the 5th edition rules (more on the exp. guys part due to him not playing much since 5th came out.) Too much stopping. As well as differentiating fluff from actual rules.
So yeah, just my two cents from my experience.
Myles is right. If he's new, try doing a combat patrol and go up from there. 500 is a good level.
And you guys can't split on a 5th ed book? Or get a black reach set and get the mini-book?
well no not really its alot of money when weve already got one. hes good with the rules but cant quite get the first win and his lists keep getting better but he'll get one soon im sure
Do 500 points.
Get a 5th edition rule book.
One thing he should know is that Marklights+hammerhead=dead prism.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
