Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, me and my buddies set a deadline; one and a half weeks to get the army started and a 500 pt list fully painted, then we'll have a tourney. Here's the list I came up with:
-Doom, Singing Spear, Runes of Witnessing
5 Dire Avengers
-Exarch w/2 Catapults, Bladestorm
-Spirit Stones, Twin-linked Missile Launcher
-Scatterlaser, Warlock w/Embolden
Total: 495 pts
Ok, gonna start with the Battleforce set. The 5 Avengers are quite tricky, but I don't think I'll even need more than 5 at this point level. I'll get more of them for later if I like them. I think this list will fare well and will serve as a good starting point for my up-coming Eldar force.

I'd definitely take the Walker instead of the Rangers, you can even fit in 2 Walkers for that price and I think they really shine in low point games. They are also usable in higher point games although people tend to switch over to Prisms once the points go up. Still, I like the versatility of the Walkers, especially if you go for a reserves/autarch list and outflank with them, that's some good stuff.
But all in all I like your list, it should do fairly well and you will have a good base to build upon. I'm doing something similar myself, trying to paint a 400 point list for a tournament I'm hosting in a month. I'm not really a painter, but I think I can manage 400 points in a month, that way at least I'll have something painted after all these years.
Best of luck to you, and make sure to win against your friend.
Yea rangers are very expensive in such a low points game, walkers have more shots (if you spec them right) and are pretty sweet if you can keep them alive!
Okies, I added the War Walker instead of the Rangers. I put 2 Scatterlasers on it, so it should pump out 8 shots a turn. I thought maybe I'd put Guide on the Farseer instead? The War Walker hits with like 4 shots on average which I think is quite low amount, and guide would make it really killy. That would put most of my eggs in one basket though?
With the remaining 40 points I had for removing the Rangers, I put in a Warlock with Embolden. He should encourage the Guardians to not to leave their objective. Also, Runes of Witnessing were added to the Farseer to fill points.
How do you like it now? I'm quite pleased, since I only need the Battleforce and 2 metal figures to get started. Ideas?
I would recommend filling out the DA squad perhaps, I've only had the opportunity to use them once since the new codex (haven't really played since then) and they are absolutely amazing at throwing out some major firepower particularly against enemy troops.
They are also good in that they are generally considered a smaller threat and can be ignored by opponents allowing you to bladestorm and assault!
The reason I'm using 5 Dire Avengers is the fact that the Battleforce box comes with 5 Avengers. I'm using the Battleforce to get my Eldar project up and running as fast as possible, so I'm not able to add more Avengers just yet. If I like the way they work, I'm gonna add in more, but not now. 10 Avengers would be overkill and too pricey in this point value anyways
I know where you are coming from
I bought two box sets really inexpensively so I had a good start, just starting to get them all base coated now (GWS airbrush is pretty good)
I'm not a huge fan of rangers or pathfinders because of their low number of shots, it just seems like alot of points for a few snipers. They are notorious for being impossible to dislodge, but I've never been a fan (although the new models ARE amazing)
For 500 points its pretty constrictive, but should give you an idea how you want to progress from there
Here's another list I was thinking about:
Farseer 93 pts
-Doom, Runes of Witnessing, Singing Spear
5 Banshees 102 pts
Wave Serpent 115 pts
10 Guardians 95 pts
5 Rangers xx pts
I added in a squad of my favourite aspect; the Banshees. I like this list better, as it has all the elements of a hybrid army; shooting, vehicles, close combat and psychic powers. How do you think?
The new banshees are nice models, and pretty wicked in alot of situations!
The second army is pretty solid IMHO but I would make the suggestion to swap the Exarch's Executioner for a pair of Mirror swords since they give 5 power weapon attacks on the charge in total and that's a lot more hits and therefore wounds on the charge.
With Banshees it's all about getting as many dice as possible. Using the Farseer's Doom on their assault target works quite well too due to allowing rerolls for wounding.
