Recently i've noticed an increasing amount of abstract army lists in this forum, so i thought i'd take advantage of it and throw my two bob in.
6x Fire Dragons
Shuriken Cannons 196pts
5x Fire Dragons
Shuriken Cannon 180pts
Apologies to the more experienced players who are sick of seeing lists like this.. But i honestly reckon it'd do ok. The big drawback is the guardians susceptibility to ordnance that ignores cover.
Btw I don't think this kind of list would work at anything less than 2000pts
my mathhammer tells me the guardians will do better if they were replaced by dire avengers and a squad of rangers or pathfinders, but i could be wrong, i would be interested if you could tell me how the guardians do.
Yeh DA's will outdo guardians any day of the week, shooting wise.
But these are the reason why i chose guardians:
-they can take a concealing warlock
-wraithlords cant operate at their full potential with out spiritseers
-the army needs to have as many models as possible, to make up for what it lacks in transports
-being able to fortune 2 concealed guardian squads per turn is pretty decent (eldrad)
So it kinda comes down to survivability more than shootiness, in this army.
Although it might be worth it replacing one guardian squad with 10 pathfinders, for some MC killing potential and holding a home objective
Thanks for your advice
What's your reasoning for having EMLs in your guardian squads instead of on your Wraithlords?
If I were building this list I would just switch the Scatter Lasers and EMLs around.
Kai Shin Craftworld (Biel Tan / Ulthwe) 5000 pts
Emperor's Children 2000 pts
as another note of what i can add to this, guardians can work effectively when supported (which you have) but they are not great at dealing damage generally rather than being a pure attack unit like dire avengers guardians are dirt cheap units that can easily hold an objective (with support) so my only real problem with your force design is the 80 guardians/lock in 4 squads i'm thinking their points could be broken down a little and reshuffle the units. With that in mind here is what i would suggest as a basic change without tinkering with the points, break 2 of the guardian units into 10man squads with a Shuriken cannon or scatter laser those two squads would hold the home objective.
having conceal is damn useful but when playing around with cover there are other ways to stretch it out a little more to skim points and possibly replace units which can perform the same role but more effectively without losing the army theme.
