Just thought I'd see if I could get a little feedback on a list I've been running. Haven't done too bad with it, most games were really close one way or the other. It's more of a fun list, than a competitive list for me.
Big Mek w/ KFF, Cybork, Eavy
Warboss w/ T.L Shoota, Eavy, Cybork, PK
8 Kommandos w/ 2 Burnas & Snikrot
20 Boyz w/ Shoota & Nob w/ PK, Eavy, & BP
20 Boyz w/ Slugga & Nob w/ PK, Eavy, & BP
20 Boyz w/ Slugga & Nob w/ PK, Eavy, & BP
8 Nobz w/ 3 PK, Eavy, Cybork, BP, & Painboy
3 Killa Kanz w/ Skorcha
5 Flash Gitz w/ Shootier, More Dakka
Normally I keep my warboss in the group of nobz and position them right behind the kanz. The kommandos obviously stay in reserves and pop up where ever I need them, while the lootas and flash gitz stay towards the backfield to harass harder infantry or lighter armored vehicles. I've been thinking about getting ahold of a looted wagon for my mek and burnas, as they like to be a focal point of enemy fire.
HQ--Both are good maybe not have the TL shoota on the Warboss. I use a kombi scorcha
Elite--Good except burnas don't really do that good foot slogging. Flamers need to be up close to be good. If I were your opponent one turn of shooting would wipe them out. and one unit of almost anything could take them out especially if they are not in cover. Maybe give them a trukk or drop them for more boys.
Troops--20 boys are small units 25-30 are better. Sluggas are not as good footslugging as they only have pistols. But if you want them then up to 30 at the least drop the heavy weapons so they can run every turn and get into combat quicker. Nob unit looks good maybe add one more.
Heavy--Killa kans should have Kustom mega blasters as you don't have much in anti-tank shooting and as foot slogging you aren't moving to fast.
And WOW!! Really!?!?!?!? Flash Gitz in a 1750pt army? I am sorry but you must be knew to the forums and/or don't play that competitive of lists because it is commonly known that Flash Gitz are among the worst units in the game of 40k! Drop them for anything, anything really is better. More lootas!
But then again you are not going for competitive and for fun so its up to you. Hope it helped some what, and if Flash Gitz are your favorite unit sorry for bashing them!
Repainting Orks not sure how many points yet
Warriors of Chaos shelved until further notice
Yea, I figured my flash gitz and burnas would get flamed, no pun intended haha. I've got a couple bids on some rhinos on ebay for my burnas and planned on eventually getting a trukk or 2 for my boyz. The way I run my army is, if you focus half of your shooting phase to take out my burnas, that still leaves the majority of the rest of my army untouched and in come my boyz and nobz. If you leave my burnas alone, to focus on my boyz or lootas, here come 8 burnas that a lot of people forget can be very effective as anti-armor. The flash gitz though, they're one of the first things I think of when someone mentions orks and probably my favorite unit to field. They love big loud guns and getting stuck in just as much as any other ork and have faired pretty decently during games, almost always making more points back than theyre worth since no one takes them seriously. The problem I've had with lootas is, everyone sees them as a threat so they're usually the first unit to go. Appreciate the input though
The problem with your logic is, you could just have more Boyz. More Boyz > Burnas in almost all situations. It's also REALLY easy to make 8 Burnas run, Orks have crap Ld and really need Fearless or a Bosspole to not head for the hills. One turn of shooting one they're within working Rapid Fire is game over for them. I also don't see how they're good at anti-tank, power weapons do nothing to armor.
You basically have to run Burnas in a Trukk or Wagon, but sadly they have to jack someone else's because they can't take one of their own. It's still really easy to deal with them even mounted, I'd always rather have more Boyz personally.
Flash Gitz, I understand your like for them. I speak from a purely competitive point of view, where Flash Gitz are very bad. Just to expensive, bad BS and not a difference maker.
Lootas, yeah they do get targeted asap, you're right. That's why they have super long ranges, a 4+ cover and T4. Much more resilient than they appear, unless there's Outflankers and Deep Striking which is their bane. Still arguably the best unit in the Codex and fills a role that no other Ork unit can do nearly as well.
If you like those units, go for it but they really don't belong in a strong list. I'm just a beardy son of a bitch, so using units for fun is beyond my grasp.
I understand the competitive view of things, but like I said this list isn't made for tourny play or anything. Just something I like to run when I play my brother or some of the regulars at my local store.
I just don't understand why someone would completely avoid a unit, even in casual games, just for the sake of it sucking on paper. If I have to start worrying that much about a casual game that I limit myself to 2-3 possible lists because this unit sucks or that unit is worthless then the hobby becomes work and I've already got a full-time and don't want another.
I didn't mean anti-tank with the burnas though, just poor wording on my part, but they do deny armor saves as PW which is VERY helpful when it comes to termies and some of the other harder units around.
Once again I'm not trying to argue, just saying that I think sometimes horrible units on paper are sometimes the most fun to play.
No I totally agree, that's why I told you where my point of view is coming from. Fun for me = winning. I like units that make me win. If that's not all you care about, that's fine. It's not possible for me to know what units people like/dislike so I just tell them what will win the most.
Hey, go head and field the Flash Gitz. I like the image of a gaggle of nobz carrying cannons blasting away at anything that moves, but I dont field them myself. Personally for me fun in Warhammer is a good game against a good opponent. I love those suspensful game changing dice rolls and amazing last atands of a unit left to die. If Flash Gitz float your boat then go ahead man.
