Elite Choices - Help me finish out my list, please!

    Hello all,

I am in the process of finishing up my Eldar army but am lacking in the 'Elite choice' area.

I started off getting some units I -thought- were good.. and after playing with them, realize that they are more of a waste of points, or 'one-off' units (such as Fire Dragons) when playing against most of the folks in my area.

    Here is my current setup:

    hq choices:
    Avatar
    Eldrad
    Farseer (on foot)
Warlock x4 (on foot) [side note: working on putting them on jetbikes]
    Yriel
    Autarch on jetbike

    Elite choices:
    5x Striking Scorpions w/ Exarch
    5x Fire dragons w/ Exarch
    7x Wraithguard

    Troop choices:
15x Guardians w/ platform (can swap weapons on platform)
    10x Storm Guardians
    10x Dire Avengers w/ Exarch
    5x Rangers
Wave Serpent x3 (can swap weapons out freely - yay magnets)
Jetbike x4 (working on more.. gimme time!)

    Fast Attack:
    5x Shining Spears w/ exarch
3x Vyper (can swap weapons out freely)
    5x Warp Spiders w/ Exarch
6x Swooping Hawks w/ Exarch (only used once.. kinda bleh unit imo)

    Heavy Choices:
Dark Reapers x9 w/ 2x exarch (i lost one, oops) [i have 2 units, because one was donated to me.. meh]
Wraithlord currently kitted out with EML and BL +2 shuricats

So.... THAT's what I currenly own.

    My dilemma:
I don't like any of my Elite choices really.. reasons:
Fire dragons - kind of a 'one and done' unit
Wraithguard - too expensive, unless playing a high point game - thought about getting 3 more to make troop choice, dunno.
Striking Scorpions - like 'em, but no support

That being said, here is what I'm looking for:

I have the 3 Wave Serpents:
    Serpent 1 - dire avengers
    Serpent 2 - storm guardians
    Serpent 3 - ???

I am looking at going one of 3 ways:
    Harlequins
    Banshees
    More scorpions

I have pretty much scrapped the Scorpions option, as they don't really fit my play style.
I am leaning heavily towards the Banshees because of the power weapon aspect, but the Harlequins seems like they would be so amazing to play, but you can't put them in a wave serpent.
IF i went the Harlequin route, I'd be stuck putting something like 5 Wraithguard, or the 5 Scorpions in that serpent.. blah.

But.. if I went with 6-10 Banshees, they hop out of the serpent and go apeshit!

Anyhow... help! (before i spend more money!)

If you think I should steer away from the elite choice in a serpent and go for something more practical (like more DA's or whatever) let me know. I'm open to ideas.

SIDE NOTE: my play style is usually "rush in your face" because I used to play Orks.. hence all the faster stuff with melee capabilities.

Many players will field Fire Dragons in a wave serpent as a heavy hitting tank-killer unit.

Also as far as you have them around, Wraithguard aren't a bad unit, if you get 3 more you could even field them as a troops choice. These guys lend a super-heavy infantry squad with some high end killing power with their shooting to your force. Or you could pop 5 of them and a 'lock in a waveserpent to go jump on enemy specialist units.

Banshees or some more scorpions would also be great options. Make sure you have an exarch with their heavy weapon. Also you could grab another waveserpent. Honestly I'd say banshees would be a better addition to your current forces, those power-weapons are much needed against all the space marines out there.

Remember that scorpions can infiltrate/outflank for a few points, this way they can start close in, giving your enemy an immediate threat to consider and a little breathing room for your other fast elements to use to get around with.

    Banshees with a doomseer.

Outlflankings scorps can be a nightmare for someone who has only left 1 troop choice behind to defend his home objective.

For Banchees to be effective its as eric says a doomseer is darn near a requirement along with a wave serpent. The ladies str 3 is a real bummer and I know how appealing power weapons can be, however toughness 3 with a +4 sv means your doomseer would also benefit from fortune as well. Long story short 110pts for a farseer with doom and fortune as well as 110pts for a wave serpent with TWL shuriken cannon and spirit stones, to make a 187pt unit(ten ladies, exarch, executioner, acrobatic) hit like a ton of bricks. While a full squad of scorpions and exarch with a claw, plus shadowstrike for 207pts with 36 I5 str4 attacks(and don't forget the exarchs 5 str6 I1) on the charge from a 2/3rds favorable position due to outflank. Without a doubt the will make light work of most infantry and light armor. Now if CC isn't your thing and you are suffering from lack of anti-tank dragons are the way to go, fully kit them out to 136pts put them in a 110pt wave serpent and happy hunting.

I would put the fire dragons in the WS, and have a mobile, tank-slagging unit.

I would also drop the Reapers for Wraithlords, the latter choice is IMO more cost-effective and more mobile.
Terminator armor going critical would be like Three Mile Island only very, VERY angry, and carrying a hammer.
LO rules in a nutshell: Don't post unit costs, be polite, rep posts containing of win.

Right on! That is my local hang-out as I live just around the corner. I'll bring what I have and we can continue there.

There are 2 including myself.. unless your name is Nick.. (which by your forum name, I'm assuming not) then I'm sure I'll be able to find you. Plus.. the other Eldar player that roams around those parts is in his 30's. Im the chubby red-headed dude.. you'll end up seeing me in a football jersey most likely.
