Welcome to Librarium Online!
My son and I play some games of WH40K from time to time. He has been building his Eldar list for about two years without any real "plan", mostly getting units he finds cool.
Now when we play the Eldar list gets beaten most of the time. Since I don't know so much about Eldar some advice would be appreciated for what units to add.
This is what he has:
- Farseer on foot
- 10 Guardians w. Heavy weapon
- 10 Dire avengers
-- 1 Wave serpent w. bright lances for one of these
- 4 jetbikes, one with shuriken cannon
- 7 Harlequins (incl. 1 shadowseer with veil and 1 troupemaster) that all usually take kisses and 2 fusion pistols.
- 1 Vyper
- War Walker
- Fire prism
Any ideas how to improve? Seems like we need more anti-tank, at least when they play against our GK list with 2 landraiders.

Two landraiders in 1k is rather harsh for most lists to deal with not just eldar. As for his army I think it is a solid start. Some suggestions would be to pick up a couple of fireprisms or wraithlords kitted out for AT. The choice depends on if he wants to go more mech or more foot. Perhaps switching out the harlies for a firedragon unit in a waveserpent is another suggestion I have. Harlies are fun but extremely fragile and expensive. The walkers can be in a squad of 3 so if it is doing well maybe grab 2 more.
Although they are not always the pride and joy of an eldar army these days, I think you should both work on ways to get his harlequin around the board. The rest of this list is looking quite mobile (sans the guardians, which are best hiding on an objective or in cover) consider picking up a falcon and dropping the shadowseer, this way the harlequin can be delivered to places where they would be more effective. Alternatively you could grab another waveserpent for the guardians, and the harlequin could jump in (this is a more efficient route).
I really don't think the current bundle of units is a bad start, just needs to be built up a little. What weapons are the vyper/warwalker using? How about the guardian heavy weapon?
And yes, two landraiders is very harsh, though if anything can take them down from a safe range, it's eldar.
get 1 more prism.
get 2 more war walkers. Id arm them all with either scatter lasers or shuriken cannons.
do what the last guy suggested with the guardian defenders wave serpent option for the harlequins.
given this list id put the farseer on foot with the harlies and give him fortune and fortune the harlies every turn, gives the a 55% chance with their save.
as for the jetbikes, keep them in reserve and boost to objectives when they come on.
if you want tactics let us know.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
Thanks for your replies guys. Some really helpful stuff there.
It seems like another prism should be his first wishlist item then.
The walker and guardian platform is magnetized so we can switch a little. He used brigth lances on both in the last game but with one shot and BS3 they are not very useful we found out.
The vyper is built with a shuriken cannon, but we usually count that as a starcannon instead, any suggestions on that?
Sure, some tactic tips would be appreciated.
So happy to see i've been reduced to being "the last guy." :pdo what the last guy suggested with the guardian defenders wave serpent option for the harlequins.
Warwalkers strike me as far more efficient when used as mass-fire platforms. Also the vypers suffer from the same ballistic skill, so putting expensive low rate of fire weaponry isn't your best bet.
Big part of tactics for eldar is to use cover, and pick off lonely targets. Hit the flanks of your opponent instead of trying to jump on their front-line. With my eldar-playing experience, creating fire-lanes and limiting the fire-lanes of your opponents is immensely important.
Objectives are very much about troops not being attackable until your units need to be scoring.
