I have just recently met up with a buddy I used to wargame with and we are going to play some 40k. He has lost all his models so he will be starting over with IG and we will be doing small battles to begin with at least.
I haven't played in a long time but was thinking about this for 500pts.
Farseer with Singing Spear and Doom
11 Storm Guardians with 2 flamers, Warlock with Destructor
11 Guardian Defenders with Starcannon platform, Warlock with Embolden
4 Guardian Jetbikes
1 Vyper with Shuriken Cannon
Comes out at 499.
Basic plan is to:
Camp home objective with the Defenders, try to take out any heavy units that get into range.
Have the seer move up with the Sorm Guardians in an effort to assault (or just toast) anything they can, while the Vyper and Bikes use mobility to support where needed.
I don't have a whole lot of other models for other options, especially following WYSIWYG, but am looking for suggestions for improvements, changes, awsome tactics etc.
P.S. Ulthwe' themed army in case you couldn't tell.
I really like bikes in smaller games, any chance you have a jetbike warlock to go with them? embolden and a singing spear help reduce the risk of the lower LD of guardians and gives the unit a bit of tank hunting power. The star cannon is often considered to expensive for what it does now, changing this to an eml or scatterlaser might be a good move. I love storms but I am a bit concerned about trying to get into flamer range of IG with t3 5+ save models. Another defender squad or some more bikes might work better, having said that though if you can get the storms into his lines they should have some fun. Any chance you have some warwalkers? A walker with 2 shuriken cannons is cheaper than the vyper, fires more, is not open topped. With the scout move it can be in a good spot to start to help mitigate the fact it isn't as fast as the vyper. Just something to think on.
My models include
A Falcon with Scatter Laser
A Vyper with Shurken Cannon
34 Guardian defenders
3 Anti-Grav Platforms with 1 Starcannon and 2 Shuriken Cannons (technicaly these are from 1992 a D-Cannon and 2 Lascannons)
3 Warlocks, 1 with spear
1 Farseer with spear
11 Storm Guardians, 2 with flamers
So I am able to make a small council and mount them in the Falcon, but other than that and the bikes / Vyper, I am very low on mobility.
I would like to get a few games down before I invest any more dollars into my army.
