So I've seen plenty of army lists doused in fireknives and quite honestly, it bores me. Yes, they can do pretty much anything, but can't do any one particular thing that well. So instead, I've written up a list with more specialized crisis teams. Tell me what you think.
Cyclic Ion Blaster
2x Crisis Suits
3x Crisis Suits
Twin Linked Missile Pod
3x Crisis Suits
Twin Linked Flamer
6x Fire Warriors
4x Kroot Hounds
4x Kroot hounds
Shas'ui with Bonding knife
Devilfish with Disruption Pod
2x Broadside Suits
Advanced Stabilizing System
Shas'ui with shield drones
Everything else is pretty much standard, just the suit options have changed from 3 units of fireknives to 3 more specialized units. How do you think this list will fare in a competitive setting?
i'd give your HQ and 2 Helios some drones as a buffer against all the shooting and melee they are guna encounter.
But will they really encounter that much more shooting/melee than any other crisis team? They'll be in pretty much the same range as any fireknife team, and you typically don't bring drones with those units.
it depends on how you play them i guess.
you might sit back at 24" shooting your PR, with the CIB and FB for incase the enemy gets close or when you feel the you can move forward safely. Sure you won't need to protect them much from this range but this is a very passive style of play, and won't really work for these suits, unless they are guarding the fringes of a strong gunline.
for these suits to do anything really meaningfull, they go get the enemy. Close to within 12" and let the enemy have it. But to do this, they either gotta have cover, a drone buffer, or you gotta have your opponent looking somewhere else; distract him with your HH, Kroot or Piranha, so that these deadly suits won't be a priority. If these 3 XV8s don't get one of these three supports, they are guna be sitting in the open like deadly and expensive ducks, and they WILL be in the open because you'll be trying to get them to their targets on the other side of the table.
your right in saying that specialised units do better than FK. The three XV8s in your list i've been talking about pretty much replace 6-7 FK. HOWEVER, only in firepower, and only when they are safely within 12" of the enemy. Otherwise, 6-7 FK at 24" will completely outshine them.
this is a great list though i never said it wasn't
